Former school staff member in court in child abuse material case

A former school staff member will face the County Court on child sex abuse material charges.

A former education support staff member at a primary school in the Goulburn Valley will face the County Court on charges related to child sex abuse material.

Daniel Robert Gommers, 39, of Shepparton, appeared briefly in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court, in a preliminary hearing that saw his matter committed to the County Court.

Gommers is charged with possessing child abuse material that was accessed through a carriage service, using a carriage service in an offensive manner to talk about sexual activity with others and children, and using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material.

Gommers officially entered pleas of guilty to all three charges in court.

At the time of his arrest in mid-2025, Gommers was working at a school in the Goulburn Valley.

In a letter to parents in July last year, the principal of the school he was working at said that “it is important that you know that at this stage there is no information to suggest that the charge relates to any current or former student of our school, or that any student has been impacted”.

Gommers will next face the County Court in October.
