Teens expected to be charged after alleged assault on schoolgirls

Two teens are expected to be charged after police identified seven people believed to be involved in the alleged assault of two schoolgirls after they got off a bus in Shepparton last week.

A 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl, both from the Shepparton area, have been interviewed and released.

They are expected to be charged on summons with affray.

Shepparton police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the May 25 incident, which involved two 11-year-old girls allegedly being assaulted in Varcoe St by a group of eight older girls after they got off a school bus in nearby Guthrie St.

Police believe there was a verbal dispute on the bus; however, parents of the alleged primary school victims dispute those claims.

The incident was filmed and then posted and shared widely online.

Police expect to interview the remaining teens in the coming days.

Police said they were continuing to engage with the alleged victims and had increased patrols around the schools and bus stops in the area.
