"They wanted my undies too. I was like, nah, sorry, no can do," Luai told AAP after Saturday's 64-6 win.
The Kumuls were well beaten by a Samoan side stacked with NRL talent, including Luai and international teammate Brian To'o who will both join the PNG Chiefs in 2028.
But the scoreline fails to tell you how inhospitable the crowd was at the National Football Stadium, where for the first 40 minutes Samoa were up against it.
Supporters unfurled banners before kick-off with messages for Luai and To'o.
And when the Samoan players threw their jersey or shorts into the crowd at fulltime they were showered with bilum bags and knitted hats in return.
"I saw on the board there was 15,000 people but bro, that was probably one of the biggest atmospheres I've ever played in," said To'o, who scored a try in Port Moresby after signing his Chiefs deal before he had even visited the country.
"You can't explain the energy, (it felt like) a grand final they definitely brought a vibe.
"I felt so emotional this week, seeing the lifestyle people have here - they don't have everything but footy means so much to them.
"I saw how much it meant for the kids just to see me in person, that's something that I'm really looking forward to in 2028 to give them all that hope and a bit of joy as well.
"They definitely brought a smile to my face, so hopefully, I did the same for them."
To'o will see out the 2027 season with Penrith before linking with the Chiefs, while Luai become a Parramatta player on a one-year come November 1 after being shown the door by Wests Tigers.
The five-eighth likened the challenge of playing against a PNG home crowd to a State of Origin match for NSW at Suncorp Stadium as he went toe to toe with Gairo Voro - the homegrown No. 6 who has been likened to Luai.
"It's my first time playing in PNG and that was an amazing experience in itself so it gives you a sense of what it's going to be like in 2028 now," Luai said.
"The best way we could show respect to the Kumuls is play our hardest, the PNG boys have a lot of ticker and I told Gairo I can't wait to play with him in the future."
Samoa returned to Sydney on Sunday where they will face Tonga in a week's time with the winner of the pool stage match set to top Group B/C.
