A foggy morning turned into lovely a winter’s afternoon greeted the Tocumwal Bloods as they travelled to Bull Plain Rd to take on the Hoppers.
Toc kicked the first goal as term 1 saw the ball flow from end to end with both backlines holding firm.
Led by Cooke and Wolfe, the Hoppers were able to get the midfield of McKimmie and Haley into the action, which saw Strawhorn goal then give another off to Slattery.
Up by a point at the first break the Hoppers played their best quarter of the year as Welsh was strong in the middle, Strawhorn and Magro were marking targets and combined for 5 goals for the term and Fountain was racking up possessions along with first gamer Donovan whose quality use of the ball was appreciated by the forwards.
Rennie kicked 6 goals with Toc’s only major after the half time siren to have a 28-point margin.
Coach Haley reinforced that it was only a half of footy and they need to stay focussed, which became even more relevant as Rennie went 1 man down for 15 minutes in term 3.
Although at times they coughed up the ball, the midfield gut running of Jack Kennedy, Fountain and McKimmie was to the fore and again the twin towers of Magro and Strawhorn shared the spoils with another 4 goals between them. Rennie by 21 at the final break.
It was again the defence that held Toc goalless in the final quarter which saw the Hoppers through as Coghill was strong in the air, Clarke never gave an inch, and yes, Wolfe and Cooke were superb again.
Rennie by 37 at the final siren in their best performance of the season. Strawhorn kicked 8 and Magro 3, in a game that saw the Hoppers snag 13 goals straight after quarter time.
Excellent result.

Rennie 4.5.29 defeated by Tocumwal 8.5.53.
It was a tough battle this week with the defenders under the pump early, lucky Hayden Long and Tully Woodward were there to help out.
Dom McInness was marking everything that came his way. James Shaw and George McBurnie, combined well in the midfield.
The forwards made the most of their opportunities with Lach Elliott and Paul McCullum scoring 2 goals each.
The reserves hope to bounce back with a win before the bye, when they head to Picola this week.

Thirds
Rennie 8.7.55 defeated Tocumwal 7.6.48.
Another great game for the Rennie Thirds, that came down to the wire and resulted in a well deserved win.
On what was a filthy morning for football, the boys jumped out of the blocks with four quick goals taking a two goal, lead at quarter time. The boys were playing good footy considering the heavy conditions however Tocumwal put the brakes on the Hoppers and were up by eight points at half time.
Once again, the backline tightened up and managed to hold Toc to one point for the third quarter.
They were an impenetrable force which help set up a great final quarter.
Both teams were out on their feet and Rennie scrapped through with a seven, point win.
It was a great game of footy between two evenly matched teams and a great whole team effort from the Rennie boys. Well done to both sides.

Fourths
Rennie 0.0.0 defeated by Tocumwal 14.15.99.
Up against a top 4 opponent the young Hoppers were switched on, but just lack the talent and scoring ability of their opponent.
Also not being able to see the other end of the ground due to fog didn’t help. Jack Bourke was super all game and first gamer Beau Ferguson also played well.
With Demi and Todd Lawless having a crack they never let their opposition dominate. Good effort.
Best: J. Bourke, Z. Rhodes, E. Withers, D. RHODES, B. Ferguson, T. Lawless.
Awards: I and P Ferguson - Jack Bourke, Kennedy Builders - Zander Rhodes, STF Engineering - Edward Withers, Jarobee Farms - Demi Rhodes, Lake Mulwala Bakery - Beau Ferguson, Rennie Catering Committee - Todd Lawless.
