Benalla has two under-16 teams competing in the league, with the Benalla Bulldogs and Benalla Giants fielding teams, while the Benalla Saints field an under-18 side in Goulburn Valley League.
Players will now have the option to transition to the Saints’ under-18 program or continue playing in the under-17 competition.
AFL North East Border said it would work with clubs in the WDJFL to implement a smooth transition, while the Benalla Bulldogs and Benalla Giants will hold information nights for players in the lead up to next season.
In another junior league reshuffle, the Ovens and King League has scraped its under-19 football program.
The change won’t have a large affect on local teams, with Benalla All Blacks and Goorambat not a part of the now disbanded four-team competition.
