Round one the national AFL Women’s season will kick off this Friday night, and leading the charge will once again be Benalla’s Becky Webster.
Webster heads into her second season in Australia’s highest female football competition with the Geelong Cats after being drafted with pick number seven back in 2018.
Webster makes half-back flank her own in VFLW Team of the Year
After a grueling preseason, she will be looking to improve on her 2019 campaign after being sidelined for half the season with injury but coming off a best-and-fairest winning season with Geelong’s VFLW team, expect to see Webster light it up on the half-back flank with stints through the midfield.
Webster and the Cats will need to wait until Sunday for their yearly campaign to begin, traveling west for a tough round-one battle against 2019 finalists Fremantle at Fremantle Oval.
Travel will be a key component to Webster’s season, with the young gun racking up the miles with trips to Gold Coast and Sydney for interstate clashes with the Suns and GWS Giants respectively.

With four home game matches at GMHBA Stadium, perhaps her nearest game close to home will be a round-four match up with one of the competition's newest teams, Richmond, when the two teams face off at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo on Saturday, February 29.
After making finals last season, Geelong will look to make it back-to-back finals series – though this season boasts a three-week series instead of two – and will compete with fellow Conference A for a spot in the top four.
