Decreases to the caps reflect the expected financial impact of the COVID-19 crisis, with reductions in line with other metropolitan and country competitions across the state.
Goulburn Valley League president David Roff said he supported the decision made by AFL GM.
“Although we are not yet sure what 2021 will look like, a reduction in the salary cap in 2021 will assist clubs to improve their sustainability,” he said.

Kyabram District League president Frasier Kerrins said bringing the salary cap down would reduce pressures on volunteers who raise funds to remain competitive.
"It shows that we are aware the money previously taken for granted may not exist in the future. The KDL wholly supports the reduction in our salary cap and that of our neighbouring leagues,” he said.
"Our clubs can now focus on the retention and recruitment of playing groups for the 2021 season."
League salary caps also announced by AFL GM include the Murray Football League ($100,000 down from $140,000) and Picola and District Football Netball Club ($90,000 down from $105,000).
