Due to new motorcycle track regulations, the motorbikes cannot compete at Historic Winton for the first time in its 49-year history.
Nevertheless, turning lemons into lemonade, the Austin 7 Club has worked long and hard to create a 36-race weekend across all major categories including race cars from the 1920s to 1980s.
The ever-popular ’50s to ’70s sedans, such as FJ Holdens, Minis, and Valiants; Formula Ford; the sleek S class and open-wheelers are a few examples of the ‘historics’ that will be in neck-and-neck combat on track.
Event chair John Kessner said the younger crowds would be amazed at the output of some of the historic cars, which they may not have seen in action before, while they would also be given the opportunity to peruse paddocks full of cars on show.
“Younger spectators will be surprised by the power of some of these older cars,” Kessner said.
“This along with paddocks full of vehicles on display, visits to the competition paddock to see the race cars up close, parades of specially selected vehicles and the automotive market, will give families loads to do.
“We know that thousands of dedicated historic motoring enthusiasts will pile into Winton Motor Raceway over the weekend.”
The Shannon’s Car Park will present heritage vehicle displays with clubs presenting their finest and even unusual cars, trucks and even wooden boats.
“So much is happening at Historic Winton that there is a ‘hale and ride’ courtesy bus transporting visitors around the track,” Kessner said.
