Last Saturday, Lincoln Arthur, together with his mum Emma, both completed their 50th parkrun
Event Co-director of the parkrun Lynda Barclay said it was, “an impressive achievement by one of our young parkrunners.”
“It is particularly noteworthy since Lincoln is only nine years old.”
“Lincoln and Emma were part of the 65-strong crowd of runners and walkers to enjoy parkrun.”
“Many visitors from Victoria and further afield also participated and were full of praise for the scenic Deniliquin course.”
Reaching a half-century of the weekly events completed is a significant parkrun achievement.
Lincoln’s mum Emma said the pair first gave parkrun a go at the end of 2023, “We started in November 2023 when Lincoln wanted to go down because some of his friends were doing it.”
“Initially, I was just planning on watching, but due to the parkrun rules of adults needing to stay with kids, we got into it, jogging and then running.”
“Lincoln is very consistent and goes all the way to the finish line, so since we started, I have not been able to beat him.”
“He only just turned nine years old and started when he was seven years old.”
Most of the pair's parkrun experiences have been at their home event in Deniliquin since starting there a year and a half ago, but running has also taken them further afield, having completed parkrun events in Numurkah and Bendigo before completing 50 at the McLean’s Beach event last weekend.
“We managed to bring up 50 together, I volunteered one week, a few weeks ago, so we could catch up with each other on 50 runs.”
And recently, Emma has started doing parkrun with Lincoln’s younger brother Darcy, “Five months ago, Darcy has been doing it and since then, I have been running with him.”
“We’re a very active family and play a lot of sports, but we were not a running family until parkrun.”
“The great thing about parkrun is that it is just about yourself and focusing on your personal best.”
“Lincoln has been going for a run during the school week to build his muscles.”
The pair have been quite consistent at the weekly runs with no plans to stop despite football this year, “Lincoln will be starting fifths football this year which might mean some early Saturdays away, but we will still be running somewhere.”
