Our top rink was Lorna Armstrong, Peter Brock, Jamie Robinson and Darren Mathers 19/13 with the other results being Dale Brooker 15/23 and Bill Armstrong 18/26.
The A3s ventured to Wodonga, which is normally a long trek home after a defeat, but alas the three rinks had great wins with a 57/47 result overall.
Steve Swanwick, Rod Cook, Christine Chapman and Eugene Hodson 22/17, Paul Chapman, John Nicholson, Cheryl Allen and Clive Gray 19/16 and Rhonda Kyval, Christine Gray, Janis McClure and Glenda Wines 16/14.
Our B1s were opposed to Corowa Civic and were outplayed in a 33/77 defeat. with the results John Spinks 11/25, Brenda Sunderland 12/22 and Hans Dartmann 10/30.
Into Weekend pennant, the A2s were home to Corowa Civic. After early morning rain it was decided to transfer to carpet C to protect the new A grade green but the result didn’t go our way with a 59/85 loss. Our consistent rink of Graeme Pitts, Kevin Morrison, Alex Briggs and Wayne Neylon 27/17 were our only winning rink. Our other rinks were Darren Mathers 10/23, Bill Armstrong 13/21 and Steve Swanwick 9/24.
The early morning rain in North Albury left the A4s with a tough afternoon with a slow eight rinker — unless you had the mat you faced ditch-to-ditch length ends with the majority of Benalla unable to adapt. The rink of Dale Brooker, Richard Baulch (welcome back) Tina Neylon and Yvonne Capp were in the game for a long time in their 16/20 loss. The other rinks were Remo Ascenzo 10/31, Janis McClure 8/36 and Ian Hobson 13/30.
Our B1s visited Myrtleford and were beaten 40/66 with no rinks up. Alan Campbell 18/22, Catherine Chuke 14/22 and Ray Blyss 8/26 were the rink results.
The B2s were the highlight of the round with a 72/44 win over St James at home. The winning rinks were John Dennis, John Spinks, Lock Lidgerwood and Vicki Besselaar 27/14, Rhonda Kyval, Daryl Quin, Max Tilbury and Kath Nunan 27/12 and Hans Dartmann 18/18.
Renovations are on the way on green D, with clippings to be distributed last Monday hopefully after being lasered.
Wednesday twilight beginners kicks off at 6pm with a barbecue and raffle tickets for $5, so members keep our club vibrant in future years by introducing new people to our game!
Swanpool Bowls Club
It was a particularly tough week for the Swanpool Bowls Club following the sudden passing of our president, Robbie.
Before play, a minute’s silence was observed, with Swanpool players wearing black armbands in Robbie’s honour.
We would sincerely like to thank the Yarrawonga and Tungamah bowling clubs for their kind words, condolences and thoughts during this difficult time. Your support and compassion have meant a great deal to our club and Robbie’s family.
Swanpool B1 Mid Week Pennant - Round 3
A close game played away at Yarrawonga, with some tight battles across the rinks.
Norby's rink fought hard to secure a 23-19 win, while Wayne’s rink also had a close contest, coming away with a 19-17 victory. Lance’s rink battled hard all day against a tough opposition, going down 23-8.
Final team score: Swanpool 50 lost to Yarrawonga 59.
Round 4 – A3 Weekend Pennant
Swanpool travelled to Tungamah for Round 4 of Weekend Pennant, with windy conditions making for a challenging day on the green.
It was a tough day overall, with Norby’s rink the only rink to get a win for the day, securing a narrow 18-17 win.
Chris’s rink went down 23-16, while Lance’s rink had a closer battle, narrowly losing 19-17. It was tough going for Wayne’s rink, who never gave up, eventually going down 32-10.
Despite the results, it’s always a great day of bowls against our fellow small club in Tungamah.
Final team score: Swanpool 61 lost to Tungamah 91.
