There was plenty of meaning attached to Tungamah’s final game of the season against Rennie, with the Bears finishing the year with a convincing 102-point win.
While it was a great way to finish the season on the scoreboard, there was also a real sense of emotion surrounding the day, knowing this was the last time Tungamah and Rennie would face each other in this cross-town rivalry.
With the league changing next season, the familiar battles between these two clubs will come to an end, and that is something that will be genuinely missed by everyone involved.
These games have always carried something a little extra, plenty of passion, pride and friendly rivalry, and it is sad to think the two sides will not line up against each other in the same way again.
Tungamah started strongly, leading 6.4 to 2.1 at quarter time before continuing to build throughout the afternoon. The Bears led by 45 points at half time and extended the margin to 88 points at the final change before finishing with 25 goals for the day.
Up forward, Ned McKeown was outstanding with six goals, while Ben Beaton and Ash Saunders both contributed four.
Brush Haebich also found the big sticks four times, with Drew Haebich adding three of his own. Tague Saunders, Chris Powell, Josh Cheek and Matt O’Kane each chipped in with a goal to round out a strong team performance in front of goal.
The game was made even more special with Drew Haebich celebrating his 250th senior game — an incredible achievement and one that deserves plenty of recognition.
Drew has been such an important part of the Tungamah Football Club for so many years, and the club is incredibly fortunate to have had Drew, Jess and their boys be such a big part of it for so long.
To reach 250 games is an enormous milestone in itself, but to celebrate it in a win and even manage to sneak forward and snag a couple of goals made the occasion even better. It was a fitting way to celebrate a player who has given so much to the club over the years.
There were plenty of strong contributors throughout the day.
Drew Haebich led from the front on his milestone day, while Geoff Montgomery was again impressive with his work around the ground and his ability to influence the contest.
Ben Beaton had a terrific game, backing up his strong performance with four goals, while Matt O’Kane provided plenty of drive and was a constant contributor throughout the match.
Brad Ward continued to put together a strong finish to the season, competing hard and making his presence felt, while Brae Grant was another who stood up and played an important role in helping the Bears control the game.
As the final siren sounded, it marked the end of the 2026 season for the Tungamah Senior boys. While the result was a fantastic way to finish, there was certainly a feeling of reflection when looking back on the year and, in particular, the end of an era with the Rennie rivalry.
There have been countless memorable battles, big wins, tough losses and plenty of banter between these two clubs over the years. The cross-town rivalry has been a special part of local football, and while the competition is changing, it will not make saying goodbye to these games any easier.
A huge congratulations goes to all of the players, coaches, volunteers, supporters and everyone behind the scenes who has contributed throughout the season. A very special congratulations also goes to Drew Haebich on an incredible 250 games — a milestone that deserves to be celebrated.
The club wishes the rest of the Tungamah teams all the best in finals and looks forward to a ripping 2027 season.
And, as always, go Bears.

It was a fitting way to finish the home-and-away season, with the Lunch Time Legends taking on cross-town rivals Rennie for what will be the final instalment of the rivalry before the league heads in different directions next year. If this was the last dance, the boys certainly were not interested in leaving quietly.
The Legends came out firing, putting five on the board in the first quarter before steadily pulling away for a comfortable 15.6 (96) to 5.3 (33) victory.
It was a result that was about as one-sided as trying to negotiate with a parking inspector.
Cam Nye finally got his five goals recognised after apparently taking matters into his own hands and replacing the statistician.
Armed with a handful of pens and absolutely no faith in the previous scorekeeper, Cam made sure this week’s books accurately reflected his afternoon. Five goals, officially recorded, and democracy has been restored. The new statistician has officially entered witness protection.
Velvet Prescott continued his remarkable transformation into the shortest tall forward in the business, slotting two goals from what started as respectable range. By the time the story reached the clubrooms, he had apparently kicked them from outside 50, the centre square and possibly the car park. At this rate, the next report will have him lining up from the Tungamah turn-off.
Ash Milner’s intercept dominance has now become so reliable that most of the backline no longer feels the need to man up. The “Playa effect” appears to have spread to the rest of the backline, with Matt Powell spending much of the afternoon delivering quality service to the forwards before wandering forward himself to slot a goal. Named on the back flank, he was seemingly operating under the increasingly popular theory that positions are merely suggestions.
Spindle relished his return to the Ressies, apparently discovering that football is much more enjoyable when nobody expects him to be good enough for thw Ones.
Perhaps the most unusual sight of the afternoon was seeing two defenders sneak into the best players. Walton and Goudie both cracked the best players, a rare occurrence in the Ressies where, apparently, defenders have to kick six before anyone notices them.
It was a convincing way to close out the home-and-away season. The scoreboard might have been comfortable, but the bigger win was heading into finals with the Legends continuing to build some serious momentum.

For the last game of the season, the Bears were blessed with a beautiful day on their home turf to watch schoolyard mates become competitors again.
In the first quarter, Tunga got away to a good start, using the ball well right around the ground to cement a convincing 40-point lead at the first break.
With the coaches making plenty of moves on the board and shifting players all around the ground, the second quarter saw the Bears kick away to establish a healthy lead heading into half time.
As the game continued, the coaches again let the boys play in positions different from their usual roles, and those watching witnessed some fun, enjoyable footy. It was great to see the regular backline players honing their goal-kicking skills up forward and the forwards chasing down their opponents for a change, giving all the boys a chance to prove their ability to play at both ends of the ground.
The last quarter of the home-and-away season was brilliant to watch, and the camaraderie between both teams was great to see. These young men are a credit to both clubs and something everyone involved should be proud of.

Tungamah hosted second-placed Rennie in a top-four-shaping game, with the young Bears needing a win to retain the double chance.
The coaches asked for a good start, and the boys responded well, but unfortunately did not capitalise on a couple of early chances before Rennie took the ball down the other end and scored.
Rennie led three goals to two points at quarter time.
The second and third quarters were real arm wrestles, with neither team able to truly break through the opposition defence.
Four goals down at three-quarter time, the coaches asked the boys for something special.
Unfortunately, the Rennie defence proved too difficult to break through until Tully Ellis went back and calmly slotted a goal to give the Tunga boys something to get excited about. Rennie kicked a goal with one second remaining to just win the final quarter.
The boys should be proud of their fight, and the result sets them up for an exciting month of finals. Judd Haebich and Lakyn Saunders both had roles on a couple of Rennie’s playmakers and did a great job.
Noah Lawless fought hard despite giving away plenty of height in the ruck. Darcy Cummins was a rock behind the ball in defence. Travis Hook gave the Bears some run across the half-forward line, while Chase Jarjoura racked up plenty of touches in the middle of the ground.

Fifths
For their last game of the year, the boys treated the occasion as their grand final.
They were up for whatever was thrown their way.
It was a tough start to the game, with both teams going at it and kids everywhere, but a snap goal to Knox Haebich opened the floodgates for the Bears, and they did not look back. Ernie, Dom and Charlie all hit the scoreboard.
It was fair to say they were happy at the end of the game, singing their song in the rooms with pride. A big thank you goes to Tay, Fox and everyone involved with the Fifths this year. It is an amazing development project for these kids, and they absolutely loved it. Go Bears.

A tight first half saw plenty of lead changes as the Bears struggled to settle into their usual game style.
One of the team’s big focuses this season has been reducing contacts and obstructions, and finishing with just five for the game was an incredible improvement and a testament to the work the girls have put in all season.
The second half saw some fresh legs and a return to that classic Tungamah style.
The girls started finding space, backing each other and building momentum to pull away.
The defensive end has well and truly found its mojo heading into finals, making the Rennie shooters work for every ball. Jorja was stellar, contesting every pass and claiming every rebound she could get her hands on.
Madi K and Chloe continued their awesome connection in the ring, combining beautifully to record their highest goal total of the season. Adelle was a powerhouse through the midcourt, consistently finding the best options and getting her fingers to every 50/50 ball.
It was a fantastic way to finish the home-and-away season, with so much of the team’s hard work starting to click at the right time.

Tungamah had a slow start as the girls warmed into the game, closing the first quarter at 12–10 with the Bears just in front.
During the second quarter, the girls fought strongly and worked hard, moving the ball beautifully in the ring and applying great defensive pressure with hands over every ball to establish an eight-goal lead going into the second half.
Tungamah was just as strong in the third quarter, holding the eight-goal gap between the two teams.
During the final quarter, Rennie’s energy lifted as the Bears began to tire, but the girls fought hard to keep their heads in the game, finishing with a 47–44 victory to Tungamah.
The girls played an unbelievable game and are ready for the finals series to start. A big thank you goes to Jenny and Kylie for guiding the girls to a hard-fought victory over their local rivals.

It was another stunning morning for netball, and the team was ready to play from the first whistle.
A solid first half saw the Bears sitting with a 13-goal lead at the main break.
Positional changes across the court saw everyone play their role throughout the game.
Maddie worked tirelessly in WA and took to the court in GD without warning, nailing intercepts and applying goal-ring pressure as though it were her normal position.
Paige settled into her role in GA and became stronger as the game progressed. Even a falcon, with the ball hitting her in the face, could not stop her work rate.
Billie-Jo was once again a powerhouse in the defensive end. Tips, rebounds and hands-over pressure helped the Bears regain possession and gave the team every opportunity to score.
The Bears rounded out the home-and-away season with a strong win against their cross-town rivals.

What a way for the girls to finish the home-and-away season, undefeated for the year.
The girls came out firing for their final game before their finals campaign begins. Impressive defensive pressure from the very first whistle created plenty of turnovers, allowing the girls to establish a strong lead at quarter time.
A few positional changes throughout the game gave everyone an opportunity to show the coaches what they could do, and once again, the girls adapted beautifully and continued to work together as a team.
It was another fantastic performance and a wonderful reflection of everything the girls have learnt and developed throughout the season. The hard work, commitment and dedication they have shown all year, along with the guidance from Tahnee and Molly, has certainly paid off.
The girls have earned themselves a well-deserved week off before they hit the court for their finals campaign.
