The Saints fought bravely, but were clearly outclassed by a polished Magpies outfit, which claimed an 88-31 victory to deny Benalla the chance for its first win of the year.
It was a relatively competitive opening quarter from the Saints, with the combination of Nikita Hanson and Bridget Hill working well together to make the most of their opportunities inside the shooting circle, scoring eight goals to Euroa’s 12, remaining in touch at the first break.
But the second term saw Euroa put Benalla to the sword as Magpies gun Olivia Morris went on a tear, the home side putting 28 goals on the board in a stunning display, Morris contributing 25 of those, while the Saints mustered just six, with the lead growing to a sizeable 26 goals by half-time.
Benalla was able to score more consistently in the second half, adding eight and nine goals in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, but by that point the damage had been done, as Euroa romped to the eventual 57-goal win.
The interleague bye this weekend comes at the right time for the Saints, who can now take the weekend off to reset before taking to the court against Mansfield in round eight, with the Eagles, who have only recorded the one win this year, providing the perfect challenge for Benalla to regain confidence on the court with a competitive showing.
In other games, Benalla’s B-grade side went down 24-68, B-reserve was competitive in a 31-45 loss, the under-17s suffered a heartbreaking 37-38 defeat, while the under-15s went down 42-59.
