‘Breast Cancer Trials’ is a group of world-leading doctors and researchers committed to finding better treatments and prevention for people affected by breast cancer. Using clinical trials research, their mission is “to save lives today, tomorrow and forever.”
A ‘sea of pink’ took to the golf course on Thursday, October 23, with 56 women from Benalla and other district clubs participating. The winners of the stableford team event were Gayle Edwards, Julie Penny and Deb Arklay from Tocumwal. Runners up were Jackie Rubira, Liz Tallis and Robyn Kelly from Benalla.
The special ‘pink ball’ event was won by Nicole Traynor, Kerry Guille and Robyn Thompson. Nearest the pins were Karen MacDermid on the third hole, Jo Martin on the eighth and Lynda Galt on the thirteenth. All prizes were kindly sponsored by Marg Brown, Katrina Bailey, Jackie Rubira, Rosie Foletta and Sue Oakley.
Sunday’s ambrose event was equally well attended with over 80 players. Unfortunately, heavy rains limited the number of holes completed. Regardless of this, all players made a generous donation to Breast Cancer Trials.
Fundraising by the club for Breast Cancer Trials also included the sale of raffle tickets over several days for a wonderful pink wheel barrow, donated by Benalla Mitre10, filled to the brim with donations from Benalla Golf Club members. Congratulations to Joan Single who was the lucky winner.
In addition to a substantial donation to BCT, the club also sold over $1700 worth of merchandise from Breast Cancer Trials and Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Sue Oakley, Benalla Golf Club Women’s Captain, congratulated the club, players and wider community on their generosity of spirit.
“On average 58 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Australia,” she said.
“Breast cancer has touched so many of our lives with one in seven women and one in 556 men diagnosed in their lifetime. Research undertaken by Breast Cancer Trials will help those affected by breast cancer to gain the treatment they need to get on with living and loving their lives.
“I encourage people to visit breastcancertrials.org.au to find out more about their wonderful work.”
