Madeleine had another stellar U12s game, with a strong drive up the field earning the first goal of the match, and by providing ongoing support to first-time goalie Teddy, with high-fives even if the ball snuck past them all.
Phoenix again showed solid tackling skills in the midfield, as well as covering the goals as a full back to support Teddy who stopped three goals in the first quarter, and seven in total.
William again covered the whole field, intercepting balls in the midfield and sending them forwards, as well as scoring himself in the fourth quarter.
Benalla’s attack was tested by Echuca White’s strong defence, but their teamwork shone through, with siblings Hayden and captain Sophie working the ball through a number of times.
Hayden snuck in a goal but Sophie was unlucky not to score with a desperate diving push right on the siren.
The more experienced Echuca White took the win 11:3.
Goals: Madeleine Wright 1; Hayden 1; William 1.
Umpire Best and Fairest votes: William Keen 3; Teddy Thannhauser 2; Hayden Littler 1.
Under 15 Orange vs GVGS Yellow:
Under 15 Orange’s game against GVGS Yellow started very evenly, with GVGS scoring the first goal from a penalty corner.
Benalla dominated from the second quarter, with the combination of Angus W and Liam running the ball through the centre and into the circle proving hard to keep up with. They both also scored off penalty corners.
Alida made fantastic position on the wing, constantly slipping behind the defence to pick up wide balls, and scoring three fantastic goals off the post from strong hits into the circle.
Erin played wing, centre forward and centre half, with a magnificent midfield tackle in the last quarter stopping a GVGS player in their tracks, to drive Benalla forward again.
Captain Talon did some extreme running, carrying the ball from full back down the wing several times, then also sprinting back into defence after scoring a goal of his own.
Abbie’s solid defence kept the pressure on, safely trapping a lot of fast passes from the opposition and accurately pushing the ball up the field to her teammates.
Goalie Annie ended with more great saves on penalty corners to ensure the win, 8:1.
Goals: Angus W 3; Alida 3; Talon 1; Liam 1.
Umpire Best and Fairest votes: Talon McKenzie 3; Liam Carroll 2; Alida Ferguson 1.
Under 15 Black vs SCC:
Benalla’s Under 15 Black enjoyed the warmer morning against SCC Lions, with a nice mid-season win.
Jack positioned well up high on the wing, with a nice drive into the circle to start Benalla’s goals off.
Centre forward Angus H. took some long runs down the wing, and scored Benalla’s second goal after a number of passes through the midfield.
Cael and captain Finn were a formidable back defence line, with both tackling solidly to turn the ball over, leaving goalie Steele with little action near the goal line.
Cael’s free hits up to Kobe as right wing made a big difference to the game play, with Kobe deflecting in towards the circle.
Xavier halted some runs through the midfield, and pushed up to Benalla’s forwards, assisting with a second goal for Angus.
The final 3:0 win didn’t reflect the skilful play and determination of SCC, who have significantly improved this year.
Goals: Angus H 2; Jack Chittick 1.
Umpire Best and Fairest votes: Angus Hayes 3; Xavier Kramer 2; Cael Johnson 1.
