Under-12s Benalla vs GVGS

The Under-12 Tigers welcomed four new players to the team this week, with Amity and Luci Hurd and Cael and Lochie Johnson all contributing to great team plays.

Everyone was excited to take the field and do their best. Annie Ferguson stepped up to goalie, showing improved skill and confidence.

Cael and captain Lily Stewart combined well in defence making sure GVGS worked hard for each and every goal.

Lochie, Haddasah Adams and Mackenzie Mort helped back up the defensive end and helped to move the ball down the pitch.

Jack Chittick worked hard through the midfield making multiple attacking drives, earning him the Coach’s Award. He scored the first goal off a long run with Angus Hayes.

The Tigers again displayed a much-improved second half, slowing the flow of GVGS goals.

The second goal was run down the right wing by Alida Ferguson to Lochie then to Luci in position in the circle who scored.

The best play of the day was a perfect penalty corner pushed in by Angus to Amity who passed back to Angus on the post to score. GVGS won.

A shout out to Steele Adams, who filled in for Euroa Under-12s for a fun game against Mooroopna.

Under-14s Mooroopna-Benalla vs Strikers:

The Under-14s had a tough game against the speedy Strikers, with Lily Stewart and Sophie Winkler making strong tackles forward of the circle then running back.

Hadassah Adams stepped up to the Under-14s, and made some great plays, avoiding Strikers and pushing forwards up the left wing.

Mooroopna completely shut down Strikers in the second half, and a fast run by Erin Jenkins down the centre with Mia Ponting saw Mia score. Strikers won 6:1.

Umpire best and fairest votes: Mia Ponting 3, Cameron Dundon 2, Riley Law 1.

B-Women Benalla-SYC vs Strikers:

The B-Women played competitively against Mooroopna’s advanced skills, minimising their time in the circle.

Goalie Prue White made some fantastic dives to save sure goals, also thwarting second and third attempts.

Full backs Bec Littler and Millie White defended beautifully, taking the play out of the circle.

Versatile player Kiah Atkinson made fantastic turnovers and pitch-length hits.

Despite being shut down by Mooroopna, Benalla’s forward line ran hard all game, with Katrina Brown making a strong cross pass to Heidi Perry who belted a goal in from the top of the circle. Mooroopna won 6:1.

Umpire best and fairest votes: Kiah Atkinson 3, Katrina Brown 2, Prue White 1.

This week the Victorian Junior State Championships are held in Melbourne from Thursday to Sunday.
