With the warmer weather and longer daylight hours, everyone’s attention now turns to summer sport, and what better activity than a leisurely game of tennis.
Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club president David O’Donoghue said he was excited about the upcoming season. The club’s 24 grass courts were in pristine condition and will only get better.
On the weekend of Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, the club is hosting the second round of the junior boys interregional championships.
150 of the best junior male tennis players from across Victoria will be competing in singles and doubles events. Mr. O’Donoghue urged Benalla and district residents to come down and watch top tennis action.
Mr. O’Donoghue also said that planning for the club’s 100th annual tournament was well under way. The event will be held over three days commencing on Saturday, January 3 next year and the club is hoping that there will be in excess of 300 players competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.
On the last day of the tournament, the club’s major fundraising raffle will be drawn, with a double pass to the ladies final and the men’s semi-finals of the Australian Open up for grabs. Tickets are only ten dollars.
