Last week we played our Semi Final games with Astros (Team 4) 241 df Pirates (Team 5) 195 and in the second game Rangers (Team 3) 240 df Red Sox (Team 2) 226. We had 8 three game winners in the Semi Finals Peter M, John T, Tom W, Rachel G, Gill Emily R, Tim H, and Vijay well played all of you and congratulations.
Tonight’s games have Pirates (Team 5) v Rangers (Team 3) playing the Preliminary Final, if you are in either of the teams playing and are unable to play this week please call Tim on 0417537135 he needs to organise the fill ins for the finals, so call him as early as possible so he has enough time to organise fill ins.
Try to be at the courts by 7.15 to have a warm up and then games can start promptly at 7.30. If you are not playing we would love you to come down to the courts to cheer on those playing. Those of you playing tonight remember to enjoy the games and have fun, good luck to all of you.

Benalla Golf Club Men’s Results
Today, Wednesday, September 7, is a stableford event and on Saturday, September 10, is also a stableford event “Lefties v Righties” sponsored by Great Northern.
The Foott Waste Player of the Month for August was Mick Smith.

Last Saturday, September 3, 43 players competed in a stroke event, the Monthly Medal, sponsored by Ray White Benalla.
The best score of the day, 69 nett, was had by Ken Muir to win A-grade and the Monthly Medal. The A-grade runner up was Sam Symes, 70 nett, on a countback. Dale Gee, 72 nett, won B-grade with Darryl Quin, 74 nett, the runner up on a countback.
The best scratch score of the day was Lucas Hales with 78 “off the stick”.

On Thursday, September 1, a stableford was played with 14 players.
Division 1 winner was Sue Oakley with 35 points, and Division 2 was won by Di Lewis with 38 points.

Monday, August 29: Fifteen bowlers played 3 games of 8 ends of triples and fours. Winners were R Edwards (Skip), S Zanin and R Brindley with 3 wins and 24 shots up. The runners-up were L Brown (Skip), I Brond, D Gulbin and W Matthews with 2 wins and 8 shots up.

Jackpot Triples — Wednesday, August 31
Jackpot Triples attracted entries from 24 teams, a total of 72 players. We welcomed visitors from Euroa, Mansfield, Moira, Mulwala Services, St James and Swanpool in sunny conditions. The winning team for the day was B Sargood, G Goode and G Andrews with 9 shots up. Runners-up were R Ascenzo (Skip), L Bradshaw and W Armistead with 12 shots up.
Jackpot Pairs — Friday, September 2
Fourteen teams played Jackpot Pairs in fine and mild conditions. We received entries for bowlers from Euroa, Moira, Swanpool and Wangaratta. The winning team was G Lessing (Skip) and J Peake. Runners Up were B Diffey (Skip) and R Bradley.
Social Bowls — Saturday, September 3
President’s Day/Opening of Summer Season — We wish to thank Mayor Bernie Hearn for joining us to officially open the BBC greens for the Summer Season.
The current BBC Men’s Club Singles Champion, Damian O’Connor, put down the first bowl of the day, which was followed by the bowling members and guests playing 2 bowl triples until “the bell”.
Thereafter everyone took their seats in the Members’ Room to enjoy a very sumptuous afternoon tea.
We thank everyone who helped make this afternoon so enjoyable following the couple of years of lockdown. We wish all members good bowling for the coming season.
Please note: Club Triples & Fours entry sheets are up and will stay open for a while.
There must be at least four teams entered for club events to take place. Also sheets are up for September 10 pennant practice match and September 17 Practice Match against YMGCR. They have asked if we are available for Tuesday, September 13, for a practice match. Please put your names up ASAP.
Swanpool and District Table Tennis Preliminary Finals Results
Both of the preliminary finals, the A-grade and A-reserve, were played at the Tatong hall last Wednesday and here are the results.
In A-grade the Wombat’s Nader Bonarba, Andrew Marriott and Kyle Pearce defeated the Eagle’s Shaun Murphy, Luke and Ben Baklis and Jim Renkin scoring 7 rubbers to 4. Bonarba and Marriott won two singles rubbers each and Pearce won a singles rubber. For the Eagles Murphy won his three singles rubbers and Luke Baklis won a singles. The Wombats won both doubles rubbers.
In tonight’s grand final at Tatong the Wombats will play the Bombers.
In the A-reserve preliminary final the Tiger’s David Beer and Paul and Wesley Shea also scored a 7 rubbers to 4 win against the Magpie’s Pete and Will Smith and Damian Young. Paul Shea was at the top of his form winning his three singles rubbers. Beer won two singles and the three Tigers players won both doubles rubbers. For the Magpies Pete Smith won two singles rubbers and Will Smith and Young won a singles each.
Tonight’s grand final will be contested by the Tigers and the Emus.
A reminder for all players attending the presentation night at the Tatong Tavern next Wednesday, September 14, to notify either Rob Erskine or Shaun Murphy. Also, anyone who may know where the A-Reserve trophy is please let Rob Erskine know.
Benalla Bridge Club Results
Congratulations to Don Heggie (and his partners) for the two wins last week, and also to Don and David, Christine and Peter for the excellent percentages achieved.
On Wednesday, there were almost eight tables of members in attendance, so it is encouraging to be welcoming more players back after winter.

Plovers Fly to Grand Final Success
A-Grade
Top side the Plovers faced the third-placed side the Possums. John Bajada teamed with John Holschier for the Plovers and they were up against Phil Keast and Jamahl McDonald for the Possums.
In the singles John was the favourite to win against Phil. However, John did not have it all his own way. John took the first game 21-19, Phil hit back winning the second game 21-18. The third game went to John Bajada easily 21-12. A good start for the Plovers.
The second game matched the young Jamahl McDonald against the veteran John Holschier recent form suggested that the Possums, Jamahl should win however John had other ideas. He took the first Game 21-6 with a series of great forehand winners. John confidence was sky high and carried his form through to the second Game winning 21-11.
Going into the doubles the Plovers had a 2-0 lead. Phil and Jamahl teamed well together beating the two Johns 23-21 in the third game in a high-quality match.
The Possums needed to win the first of the reverse Singles, Jamahl against the John Bajada it was always going to be a tough ask. John was the leading player for the season and Jamahl pushed him with so fantastic shots but to no avail, John winning in two games.
A gallant Possums went down 3-1 to the Plovers.

Leading Players for the 2022 Winter Season:
John Bajada 23 wins, Stephen Lane 21 wins and Mick Kelly 19 wins.
B-Grade
The Numbats finished the Season 20 points clear on top of the ladder and went in against the Gliders as firm favourites. However, the Gliders were not going to let the Numbats intimidate them. The Gliders Elliot McCallum won the opening Singles against the Numbats John Spencer 21-12 in the third Game. The Numbat’ Stephen Mahon won against the Gliders Darcy Bullen 2-0. One all going into the Doubles the Gliders’ pair of Eliot McCallum and Darcy Bullen proved too good for the Numbats pair of John Spencer and Stephen Mahon both Games were 21-19, a 2-0 win to the Gliders.
Going into the reverse Singles Darcy Bullen was up against John Spencer and an epic match resulted in long rallies and great individual points. John was the ultimate winner 2-1. However, the third Game was a 29-27 nail-biter, which had the small crowd that gathered inside the hall on the edge of their seats.
This left Elliot and Stephen to play for the trophy. Stephen finished on top of the B-grade individual players list and Elliot finished mid table. Elliot played his heart out, but Stephen proved to strong when it counted. Stephen winning 2-0 21-19 in the second a great finish to the Season from both sides. A 3-2 win to the Numbats.

Stephen Mahon 21 wins; Carol Perry 20 wins and John Spencer 16 wins.
C-Grade
In the C-Grade final the Crickets took on the Koalas. First up in was Brian Perry for the Crickets against Christine Nicholas for the Koalas. Brian’s experience came through and was a comfortable winner over Christine 2-0. Next up was Sienna Bajada for the Koalas against the Crickets’ Logan Hyland. In a tight match Logan took it up to the younger Sienna, but Sienna showed her ability to win in two tight Games.
One all going into the all-important Doubles the Crickets’ Brian and Logan up against the Koalas’ Christine and Sienna. The Koalas’ pair started out brilliantly winning the first Game 21-17. The Koalas, pair steadied, and they took out the second Game 21-14 and then ran away in the third Game 21-6. A brave performance by the Koalas’ pair going down 2-1.
The reverse singles were next which had the Crickets’ Logan Hyland against the Koalas Christine Nicholas. Logan played an exceptional game and while Christine fought hard, she was unable to stay in the game. Logan the winner 2-0.
The Crickets the winner 3-1 in a very entertaining Match.

Section 1 played on August 31:
The Barkly Street Vets defeated Benalla Bobcats 3 rubbers to 1, Greg Murphy (Capt.), playing out-of-time defeated Wally Pastuszka 3/0, Josh McNair defeated Paul O’Brien 3/1, Bechy Pastuszka lost to Ross Marchant 1/3 and Anakin Pastuszka defeated Jye Pastuszka 3/1.
The other side of the draw played on the night were the teams of Smith Dosser Accountants and Dr Stuart Jones Dentist, winning 2 rubbers apiece, the result decided on games 8 to 6 in favour of Smith Dosser Accounts. Individually; Gerard Vitti lost to Stuart Jones 0/3, Andrew Ham defeated Treena McNair 3/0, Ben Flynn (fill-in) lost to Liam Margat (fill-in) 2/3 and Ben Flynn (fill-in) defeated Ray Moulday 3/0, congratulations to Ben on a sterling effort on the night. Caslek Computing & Cabling had the Bye.
Section 2, played August 29:
HP Excavations defeated Custom Squash 3 rubbers to 1; Greg Cornell lost to Dee Manning 0/3, Lucas Ham defeating Ryder Levy 3/1, Jo Henderson defeating Vicki Randi 3/0, and lastly, Alex Briggs defeated Xavier Kerr 3/0.
In the other half of the draw, Hollywoods Pizza defeated Roweanne Builders Pty Ltd 3 rubbers to 1. Individually; Tiffany Levesque defeated Toby Currie 0/3, Andrew Bowden lost to Andrew Ross-Costello 3/1, Addison Pastuszka lost to Angus Woodward 1/3, and finally, Xavier Kerr defeated new starter from the Junior ranks Caleb McDiarmid 3/0. Bye team for this round was Steph Ryan MP.
If you are interested in learning or playing squash, in partnership with the Tomorrow Today Foundation, Benalla Squash Club and other local sporting groups have a Come & Try Day on the 18th of September at the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre on Ackerly Avenue, come down and take a look, we will have an inflatable court to have a hit in, along with passionate volunteers to guide and coach you.
Alternatively, competition nights are Monday and Wednesday from 6:30pm, and junior training sessions are on Sunday afternoon from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
