Last Monday, while the world paid homage to one Queen, 16 dedicated bridge players paid their respects to four queens (Spades, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs), and George (not Charles) was once again king (with Marjorie’s help).

The winner was Brian Hollins, 37 points, and the runner-up was Mick Smith with 36 points on a countback.

Monday, September 19, 17 bowlers played three games of eight ends of fours. Winners were D. McIntyre (skip), L. Taylor, Joan Lemin and R. Flynn with two wins and one shot up. Runners-up were R. Edwards (skip), S. Zanin, A. Briggs and R. Brindley with one win.

Jackpot triples – Wednesday, September 21
Jackpot triples attracted entries from 18 teams, a total of 54 players. We welcomed visitors from Mansfield, Moira, St James and Swanpool in mild conditions. The winning team was K. Nicol (skip), T. Nicol and N. Jackson. Runners-up were S. Warfe (skip), M. Felmingham and J. Martin.
Go Grocer 5-a-side tournament – Friday, September 23
We welcomed 22 teams to this tournament on an overcast day. We did experience some sunshine which made the temperatures alter.
Lunch (in two sittings) was extremely enjoyable and very generous. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped with lunch and throughout the day to make this tournament run smoothly.
The winning team from Benalla, consisting of G. Lessing, J. Stevens, D. O’Connor, S. Beaton and C. O’Connor, finished the day with a total of five wins and 97 points.
Second place went to Tony Kingma’s team from Euroa with five wins and 96½ points. Third place went to George Peterson’s team from Mansfield with five wins and 91 points. Best last two games aggregate went to Wayne Armistead’s team from Swanpool with 35 points.
Draw of the card was Shane Mathieson’s team from Swanpool. Thank you to all of the teams that played.
Club championships – Sunday, September 25
The final of the BBC Open Fours Club championship was held on Sunday, September 25. Great playing conditions, not too warm but sunny, with Sharon Warfe’s team playing Graeme Greene’s team for the trophy. Some good bowling, but Warfe’s team took control towards the end winning 22 shots to 12.
Congratulations to S. Warfe, G. Kidd, K. Nicholls and D. Lindsay. Well done to G. Greene, T. Armstrong, J. Lia and M. Binnie on making the final.

Spring season round 2 results
A-grade:
The Kookaburras had a 3-2 win over the Possums. The Kookaburra’s team of Phil Keast and Gareth Burnel teamed well in the doubles to beat the Possums’ Michelle Feldtmann and Stephen Mahon 2-1. That was the difference between the two teams.
The Owls were just too good for the hapless Plovers and 5-0 demolition.
The Wallabies had a 3-2 win over the Taipans. For the Wallabies Nader Bernaba and Pauline Hooper teamed brilliantly in the doubles for a decisive win over the Taipans’ Stephen Lane and Matt Parkinson 2-1.
John Bajada’s Rosellas had 3-2 win over John Holschier’s Echidnas.
B-grade:
The Bullants had a comfortable 4-1 win over the Numbats. John Spencer continues his great form winning both his singles and combining with Xavier Rhodes to win their doubles 2-0.
The Frogs overcame the Gliders 3-2. The Gliders’ team of Darcy Bullen and Christian Squires won the doubles against Graeme Sharp and Stuart Jones 2-1, but it was not enough to get them to a win.
The Eagles had 4-1 win over the Mozzies.
The Wombats thumped the Emus 5-0
C-grade
The Doves combination of Greg Cornell and Sienna Bajada dominated against the Magpies pair of Rhonda Gibbs and Beth Grant with a 4-1 win.
The Hawks had a 5-0 win over the Crickets.
The Koalas had a win over the Falcons by a forfeit.
Benalla Ensign women’s golf
On Thursday, September 15 a stableford was played with eight players.
The winner was Meredith Badrock with 35 points.
Nearest the pins: eighth TP Milner-Watson Pharmacy, M. Badrock; 12th Ray White, M. Badrock, Golf Shop; 13th J. Rubira; 14th J. Rubira.
The winner of the stableford played on Thursday, September 22 was Sue Oakley with 34 points.

A stableford was again played on the Saturday, September 24 with seven players and similar results.
Oakley won with 37 points.
Nearest the pins: J. Rubira on the 3rd, 13th and 14th.
This week a stableford will be played on Thursday and Saturday.
