Benalla Table Tennis Club semi-finals

Competitive: It’s semi-finals week at the Benalla Table Tennis Club.

The club’s semi-finals were held on Tuesday, May 14.

A-grade

In the first final the top team Owls’ John and Sienna Bajada were matched up against the fourth-placed Kangas, Michelle Feldtmann and Max O'Loughlan. Bajada won a hard-fought match with Feldtmann in two sets. O'Loughlan then evened the scoresheet winning a fluctuating three-set match against Bajada.

The doubles proved to be the difference with the Owls coming back from one set down to win it in three. After winning the first set 24-22, Feldtmann's experience proved too much for Bajada who went down in straight sets. Bajada finished the night, completing a 3-2 victory by beating O'Loughlan in two sets.

The other semi-final saw the Kookaburras’ Steve McCallum and Christian Squires playing the Possums’ William Tong and Logan Hyland. Tong got off to a good start beating McCallum in straight sets. Squires then won a really tight match with Hyland in three sets, 23-21, 21-23, 21-14. The Kookaburras won the doubles in three sets after coming back from one set down and winning the second 27-25. Squires then caused the upset of the night, perhaps the season, by beating Tong, who was runner-up in the A-grade championship, in three sets to give the Kookaburras a 3-1 victory.
