Having taken a year out of the sport in 2024 before signing with Blanchard Racing Team as a co-driver for the enduro races last year, Best will return full-time with the team he drove for in 2023, where he fell an agonising six points short of claiming the feeder series crown in Adelaide.
Having impressed during his stint at the 2025 Bathurst 100, running as high as second during treacherous wet conditions, Best has the talent to mix it with the frontrunners in the main game, and that’s exactly the reason he is taking another crack at the Super2 title.
"Full-time Supercars is still the dream," the 24-year-old told supercars website V8 Sleuth.
"There's been a few other guys go into it in later years, like you see Cam Hill and (Thomas) Randle both went in pretty late but are performing really well in main game, so that still gives me hope.
"I just need to win this championship and get the monkey off the back.”
All bar one Super2 champion have gone on to drive full time in the top-level Supercars series, with one of Best’s rivals, 2021 Super2 champion Broc Feeney, finishing on the championship podium in each of the past three seasons.
Anderson Motorsport is pulling out all the stops to ensure that Best is able to reach his goal of a Super2 title and a Supercars seat, also signing up Ludo Lacroix as Competition Director and Best's engineer, with the Frenchman bringing a wealth of experience having mentored champions such as Craig Lowndes and Scott McLaughlin in the past.
“I’m very excited to bring back Zak, who is one of the best drivers in the country, to come in and drive for us again after we fell just short in Adelaide two years ago. His experience and driving ability speaks for itself,” team owner Michael Anderson told supercars website V8 Sleuth.
“Combine that with Ludo coming along, as someone who has been so influential in most championships in the past 20 years won by Triple Eight or DJR. I doubt there’s anyone more credentialed as an engineer to come in and be part of our team.
“He was very influential into the designing and making of the Gen2 cars, and was very successful running them himself with DJR.
“They were the unstoppable force to be reckoned with in the Gen2 era, there wouldn’t have been too many combinations that were as successful as them.
“He knows the cars inside out, how to switch them on to make them exactly where they need to be.”
The 2026 Super2 season will get underway alongside the Supercars opener at the Sydney 500 from February 20-22, with the 14-round season concluding at the bp Adelaide Grand Final from November 26-29.
