The 14-year-old’s latest success comes after winning double gold at the Athletics Victoria state championships in February, a third and a fifth place at the Australian junior athletics championships in April and the School Sport Victoria state title in the 3km cross-country event in July.
Jasper competed in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m events at the Victorian All Schools event.
“First was my 1500m on October 2, I ran a strong race the whole way through, controlling the pace alongside another athlete,” he said.
“My training assisted me within the final 600m, leading me to pull away ... winning in a new personal best of four minutes and 14 seconds.
“On Sunday, October 4 was my 800m. After completing my heats comfortably the day before and being one of the fastest qualifiers, the chase was on.
“I led out the field in a blistering pace of 58.9 seconds for the first 400m, I held my composure through the rest of the race and was able to hang on to the silver medal in another personal best of two minutes and four seconds.”
Jasper’s final race was the 3000m final on Sunday evening.
“I situated myself in the rear end of the field and throughout the race I gradually continued to move myself forward,” he said.
“I took the lead with 1200m to go and began to inject the pace into the final stages of the race.
“I eventually pulled away entirely and finished the race in a solid time of nine minutes and 16 seconds. Not a personal best, but certainly a strong and tactical race.”
Behind the results is a demanding training schedule, with Jasper completing five running sessions each week, including easy and long runs, alongside four gym sessions.
The Cobram Anglican Grammar student said he was proud of how he managed to race four times within the competition and see the benefits of his consistent training paying off.
The main events Jasper is now working towards now are the National All Schools championships in Perth where he’ll be running the 800m and 1500m, and ZATOPEK:10 where he’ll be running the 3000m.
“After school, I would love to have the opportunity to travel over to the United States and run in the National Collegiate Athletic Association,” he said.
“Hopefully while doing that I can build towards my dream degree in physiotherapy and make a difference in the world of distance running.”
Jasper thanked his mum, coach Matt Buckell and the Parallel Running community for all their support.
