Perfect conditions for the Victorian Masters State Championships at Nagambie Lakes Rowing Centre on April 27 set the stage for local achievements.
The Corowa Rowing Club was represented by five Masters; Julie Underwood, Susie Scott, Grietje Bruinsma-Wansink, Elizabeth Sandow and Tamasin Burch.
The first up double Scull final with Julie and Susie saw the ladies start strong keeping pace with the other crews. An unfortunate technical error was made halfway down the course resulting in a disappointing finish.
The second race was the Female Coxless C quad scull heat comprising of Susie, Grietje, Liz and Tamasin. They rowed a strong, consistent race, but not enough to get them into the final.
Julie rowed the E female single scull as the race favourite from Melbourne took an early lead. Julie pulled away from the remaining crews at the 300m mark and increased her distance between the scullers to win the silver medal.
In the final race for the day, the D-grade coxless quad scull took to the waters with Julie sitting in stroke seat and steering the boat with Susie, Grietje and Liz.
It was a fast race against highly competitive crews who were made up of state representatives.
Rowing strong in second place for most of the race until the state representative crew powered past at the end to claim silver saw Corowa claiming bronze.
As the mid-week on water training winds up, our rowers will now begin their off-water gym programs Monday and Wednesdays from 4.30pm.
Social rowing will continue Sunday mornings from 9.00am and is open to anybody wishing to join in.
Corowa Rowing Club wish Tamasin and husband Alex all the best for the upcoming arrival of their second child.
