Club president Greg Filliponi says the club is looking to build participation across its traditional competitions, social tennis and the newly introduced sport of pickleball.
One of the club’s priorities is the Friday-night aggregate competition, which was introduced last year.
“Last year we started an aggregate competition on Friday nights; so we’re working to increase the following of that and participation in that,” Filliponi said.
The format is deliberately different from a conventional team competition. Players nominate individually each week if they are available, before being graded according to their playing standard.
“Instead of being team-based, you just nominate yourself to participate each week,” he said.
Players are then divided into sections, with the strongest four players forming the top group and subsequent players placed into lower grades, with results determining movement between sections the following week.
“If you win that section, you'll move up to the next section next week and the bottom person of that previous one will drop down,” Filliponi said.
The club is seeing stronger numbers in its Friday morning social tennis.
What began primarily as a women's social competition has increasingly attracted men, turning it into a mixed social gathering.
Perhaps the biggest change for the club in 2026 has been the arrival of pickleball.
The club introduced the sport in March, converting one synthetic tennis court to accommodate two pickleball courts and holding introductory ‘come and try’ sessions with the aim to develop weekly social sessions, coaching and mixed-ability competitions.
“We're toying with the idea of doing something after work, whether a Tuesday night or something like that,” Filliponi said.
“It's a great precinct, when you've got the cricket, the pool, the bowls, hockey, footy, parkrun, dog park.
“We've got the great facilities here with the clubhouse.”
The tennis club, the co-location creates an opportunity to be part of something larger than its own courts.
Families can combine activities, people can move between sports, and the facilities provide a natural meeting point for the wider community.
