Our Division 4 side won two out of three rinks against Mathoura’s Timbercutters in what was a nail biting finish, and places us fifth on the ladder.
Craig Taylor’s team of Paul Connor, John Wilson and Tony King never looked like being beaten and had a very impressive win of 17 shots, with the final score being 34-17.
Ron Marchetti had an armchair ride to victory from his team of Max Connor, Archie Webster and Pete Thommers.
All bowled superbly, and Thommers was shining in his first game of the season, playing as third.
The final score of 24-15 gave them a nine shot win.
Rod Reid’s team had no luck on the ditch rink, with Chris Frampton, Niels Hilton and Neville Austin simply being out bowled by a very strong Mathoura team.
Final score was 31-11.
Near perfect shots scored of sevens were taken and given away across all rinks in windy conditions.
The overall score after 63 ends was 69-63, giving RSL Diggers the win over the Timbercutters by six shots.
Many thanks to our fellow Digger Lyn Hardcastle for filling in for Mathoura.
Lyn rolled some beautiful bowls down for the ‘Cutters against team Taylor, and there was some discussion heard in the supporters’ crowd that she may have had to walk home.
The Diggers providing a substitute for Mathoura did mean that the game would not be forfeited, so Lyn did manage a ride home.
Congratulations, Diggers on a fantastic week of results, having won Midweek against Rich River on Tuesday and bouncing back from a round one loss to take the weekend round two win as well.
In midweek play today, the Div 2 Diggers travel to Moama.
This Saturday, the Weekend Div 4 Diggers will host third placed Moama.
