In round six Dookie United hosted battler Mathoura at Dookie Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Fresh off its first victory of the season — an 89-point drubbing of Rennie — Dookie United continued its fine form as it dismantled a Mathoura side destined for the bottom of the ladder by 177 points.
Power forward Kyle Tapscott starred for his side, booting nine goals, while young gun midfielder Lachie Ludeman contributed five of his own to the score sheet.
The victory boosts Dookie into the top eight for the first time with a healthy percentage of 142.63 and a record of 2-3.
Dookie United coach Travis Waters said his side had started to find its rhythm.
“We obviously let a couple games slip earlier in the year, but that is understandable given it's a new league, (we have a) new coach and new players,” Waters said.
“Good to get some confidence with a couple wins in a row now, the boys are starting to get on a roll.
“With the standard of games, I don’t think the players have noticed a big difference (to Kyabram District League).
“It is just a matter of a new coach coming in and then five or six new players, trying to learn everything at the same time is always a bit difficult.”
Waters said a mix of youth and experience had helped guide Dookie to its two consecutive wins.
“Kyle Tapscott kicked nine goals yesterday and I think six the week before, so he is our focal point up forward,” he said.
“Young Lachie Ludeman kicked five from the midfield, he is the vice-captain and has had a really good start to the season.
“Stuart Hobijin-Allen is a new player this year and has been playing across centre half-back and he has been a rock down there for us and is teaching some of the young fellas for us too.”
With winnable games against Blighty and Jerilderie coming up, the Power are eager to get their win-loss record in the positive.
Waters believes consistency will help keep Dookie alive deep into September this season.
“Against Katandra the end total was 52 points and that was what we were down by at half-time, so it showed we were competitive in the second half,” he said.
“Playing consistent four-quarter footy is what we are looking to work on at the moment, we have been up and down in patches, but yesterday was the first four-quarter effort for the year.”
In other games, there were maulings galore as Katamatite belted Strathmerton by 131 points, Waaia whacked Blighty by 164 points and Tungamah thumped Rennie by 206.
Picola United defeated Jerilderie away from home in a one-point thriller.
Deniliquin Rovers kept their record unblemished after beating Berrigan by 54 points, while Katunga secured a 26-point win over Tocumwal.
In the A-grade netball, Dookie United smashed Mathoura 80-22, Katamatite belted Strathmerton 55-26, Waaia pummelled Blighty 14-94 and Tungamah beat Rennie 42-31.
Katunga toppled Tocumwal by 10 goals, Deniliquin Rovers quadrupled Berrigan’s score of 15 and Jerilderie got revenge for its football brothers by defeating Picola United by two goals.
Katandra had the bye.
