Eagles can’t keep up with Numurkah

The first quarter gave an early indication of where things were heading as the host went goalless while Numurkah slotted 4.1 to lead comfortably at the first change.

The Eagles got on the board in the second, but the Blues continued to stretch the game, and would lead by 35 points at the long break.

United came out with some renewed fire after half-time and looked like they might make a game of it, kicking two goals and cutting the margin to less than four goals, but Numurkah regrouped and responded, finding the last four majors of the quarter to lock up the result.

The final term brought more of the same and as five more goals sailed through off the Blues’ boots, the home side was left 76 points adrift at the final siren.

The Eagles slid a spot on the table courtesy of Finley’s victory over Moama, now in ninth with a 4-1-10 record.

United could jump back ahead of the Cats this weekend as the two sides clash at Finley Recreation Reserve.

Finley ran out a 34-point winner in the reverse fixture on June 27.
