Picking — or hitting — a winner in Shepparton District Tennis Association is no mean feat this season.

Eight points separate first from fifth after six rounds as a cluster forms at the top of the pile, featuring a tense top four fight in the A1 division.

Shepparton North heads the table on percentage after prevailing over Lemnos under the Friday night lights, claiming a 7-49 to 2-27 scalp.

Though Lemnos snatched the first two ties 6-2, 6-5 with Tom Jeffery involved in each, North bit back to rip back the following seven rubbers in fleeting fashion.

During Friday’s earlier fixture, McEwen Reserve Red edged past Karramomus in a gripping afternoon showdown.

The match see-sawed from start to finish, but when all was said and done, Red led by three games as the final score locked out at 5-41 to 4-38.

If North’s triumph was breezy and Red’s win was anything but, McEwen Reserve Gold’s victory over Central Park on Saturday landed smack bang in the middle.

Gold pocketed a 6-47 to 3-34 result, with young gun Lloyd Akers orchestrating three of his side’s successful rubbers, pushing the Brauman St tenant into third on the table.

In the A2 division, Murchison scored its first win of the season by beating St Andrew’s 5-42 to 4-39, while Shepparton North trumped Central Park 7-51 to 2-27.
