Football

Seniors

Goorambat: 4.4, 7.11, 10.11, 17.17 (119)

Bonnie Doon: 3.2, 4.2, 7.6, 10.9 (69)

Goorambat came up against the old foe in Bonnie Doon which it hadn’t beaten away from home for a long time, hoping to get a much needed scalp. The Bats got off to a good start, although they missed some very gettable goals.

With the boys not playing their best football they still went into the half-time break 27 points up, only to come out after the break thinking they had a win sewn up, dropping off the intensity around the ball and letting Bonnie Doon back into the game.

Credit to the boys getting back on top late in the third with Victor Butler and first gamer Des O’Kane, along with the back three of Sam Gladstone, Brady Purcell and James Webb allowing the boys to run away with the game in the last quarter.

Best Players: Victor Butler (Peter Davis Rural Award), Des O’Kane (Goorambat Railway Hotel Award), Sam Gladstone (Hollywood’s Pizza), Brady Purcell (Gladstone’s Ampol Fuel Award), James Webb (Royal Hotel Award), Brayden Stepien (Advanced Ag Club Dinner Award)

Goals: Brayden Stepien 5, Rhys Goodley 3, Travers Nolan, Braydon Wapling 2, Victor Butler, Jim Taylor, Dylan Beavis, Brush Haebich, Sam Gladstone

Reserves

Goorambat: 1.2, 3.3, 5.4, 6.4 (40)

Bonnie Doon: 3.1, 7.2, 9.4, 17.6 (108)

Goorambat came up against Bonnie Doon at their home ground on Saturday and from the start of the game they took it up to the home team with some good team football.

Jack Trevena made the most of his opportunities in front of goal, both Mitch Dansey and Shaun Lemmer were playing well to keep the boys on touch, along with the ever reliable Charlie Briggs and Vaughan Kirk through the centre of the ground, who put the boys in a winnable position at three quarter time.

Bonnie Doon did finally break away in the last quarter, but keep up the good work boys and you should get back on the winners list very soon.

Best Players: Mitch Dansey, (Bouwmeesters Bakery Award), Shaun Lemmer (Hollywoods Pizza Award), Charlie Briggs (Quality Wool Award), Vaughan Kirk (Sports Power Award), Will Hyland ( Royal Hotel Award), Jack Trevena (Early Bird CoffeeAward)

A-grade

A-grade found themselves in a challenging position, having started the match on a strong note, matching Bonnie Doon goal for goal. Despite only missing one shot before quarter time, the team went into the break two goals down.

The pressure was intense from both sides. Unfortunately, we sustained another injury, which unsettled the team dynamics, however, Charli Button rose to the occasion in the midcourt, providing excellent pressure and drive.

Nelle Cousins also made a significant impact, contributing numerous turnovers and creating opportunities for us to rally back into the game, but sadly we struggled to settle and capitalize on those chances.

Kylie Relf delivered a solid performance in goals, while Michele Button made the most of the opportunities when the ball found its way into the shooting circle. Lacey Carter also made her debut into A grade on the weekend.

Awards: Charli Button (Riverbank Cash Award), Nelle Cousins (Royal Hotel Award), Kylie Relf (Bill-Bo-Pop Award)

It was always going to be a tough day out travelling to Bonnie Doon.

The Bats started strong and fought hard all day, however inconsistencies and small errors caused turnovers which proved costly.

All the girls played hard all game and kept trying new tactics to try and shut down a fast paced Bonnie Doon.

It was a great team effort from all the players but unfortunately they couldn’t get back in the game and walked away with an 11-goal loss.

The Bats will take this week to rest and come out firing again next weekend.

Great team effort from all the girls.
