After the Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association and Shepparton & District Tennis Association amalgamated into the one this year, the first serving of the newly named organisation swings into action this Friday night.
The GMTA Friday night competition, formerly the SDTA, begins on October 9, with a refreshed look seeing an extended amount of clubs entering this summer.
Back-to-back premier Shepparton North will be the team to watch again, while Lemnos, McEwen Reserve Red and McEwen Reserve Gold return to Friday night lights also.
In addition, McEwen Reserve will also field a McEwen Reserve Green side, Kialla Park Old Students (KPOS) add two teams to the comp, the Commandos, which featured in the GMLTA’s division two comp last year, and the Mavericks, and a Shepparton Lawn club outfit rounds out an eight-team comp.
Shepparton North’s three-peat hunt begins against the Commandos, McEwen Reserve Red faces Shepparton Lawn, Lemnos versus familiar foe McEwen Reserve Red, and newcomers KPOS Mavericks and McEwen Reserve Green welcome each other to the competition in the opening round’s final match-up.
In the GMTA division one competition, formerly the GMLTA’s topflight, two clubs have departed, while a new team emerges.
The Velvet Tigers and Tatura Grasscourt Snippers are out, and the Mooroopna Cats are in for an even four-team comp.
GM1 heavyweights Numurkah Warriors return seeking a historic sixth-consecutive flag, while Shepparton Lawn’s Average Joes and Tropics (formerly The Valley) are back to challenge the titanic Warriors outfit.
The GMTA’s division one begins on Saturday, October 17, when the Warriors battle fresh competition in the Cats, and a Shepparton Lawn interclub derby between the Tropics and Average Joes serves the other round one proceedings.
