Historic vehicles to go around again at Winton

Cruising: An Austin 7 at a previous Historic Winton event. The vehicle will celebrate its 100 year anniversary at Winton this weekend.

Historic cars, motorcycles and sidecars will take to the track at Winton Motor Raceway this weekend for the 45th Historic Winton.

Motor sports enthusiasts, after being treated to a thrilling Supercars Championship last weekend, now have the opportunity to take a trip back in time for the beloved historic race meet.

The Austin 7 Club, which organises the event, will mark the 50th year they have held historic motor sports events at Winton.

Organiser and president of the club, Len Kerwood, said racegoers will have the opportunity to check out a huge range of historic vehicles on show, as well as a renowned special 100-year anniversary display which will be unveiled across the weekend.

“Spectators are welcome to stroll the competition paddock to see the race vehicles and head to the corporate centre to see the 100 years of Austin 7 exhibition,” Kerwood said.

Roughly 40 Austin 7 vehicles from across the century will be on display, the oldest being a Special from 1924.

“This is the club’s 50th annual event at Winton Motor Raceway so this particular exhibition is an important way to mark that achievement,” Kerwood said.

The Benalla Historic Vehicle Tour is back with a twist this year, to be held this Friday 27.
