By far the best method of late has been trolling and casting lures.
Luke Todd netted a nice 93cm cod casting a Mumbler lure.
After a wayward cast, Luke’s lure landed on top of a log, and a quick flick saw his lure roll off the log and into the water where it sank down for a shot time before being snapped up by the 93cm cod.
The suckling’s have been stirring up a few nice cod also up to 80cm - Brett, Isaac, Nash and Chad have been having great success trolling deep diving lures along some of the deeper sections around town.
The boys have also started a YouTube channel ‘Suction’s Fishing’, so be sure to check it out.
Lily Westcott landed another personal best this time a cracking 55cm yellowbelly, which she caught trolling a 110cm Coddog log hopper.
Another one to get a PB was Will Green who reeled in a solid 82cm along with a 60cm cod. Well done Will.
Tom McKern had a PB also, landing a whopping 93cm cod which he caught in the billabong using a yabbie for bait. Great fish Tom.
The Yallakool Creek has been fishing well as Dean and Jake Herberte found out, along with Charlie Paton. The trio landed nine cod, six using reaper spinnerbaits and three on bait.
Charlie Paton took out the big fish award with his 72cm cod.
Stu and Ben Muirhead landed a few nice cod fishing from the banks out in the Werai forest.
The Mulwala Channel is well worth a try with plenty of fish being caught around the regulators over the past few weeks.
Michael and Luke Todd had a great arvo session landing themselves eight, cod casting hardbodied lures into the fast flowing waters.
I also gave the channels a try and managed to hook up eight cod, with the biggest being 55cm.
The odd redfin has also caught recently casting the ever reliable Hogback spinner around the regulators along the Mulwala Channel system.
It won’t be long until the channel’s are drained so get out and make the most of it before the water is gone.
The Wills family, along with Isaac Behsman, landed 11 good sized cod in the Wakool River - nine of those were taken on diving lures and two on surface - and rumour has it a cod of 80cm plus was dropped at the bank. Very unlucky.
Marc Davies finally hooked into a few on a recent trip back home.
Marc landed three cod. His biggest was 63cm which was caught on chicken.
Daniel Wallis and Emma DeSilva ventured out for a quick fish around the Lawson Syphon.
Daniel landed his new personal best cod of 70cm trolling a 100mm Oargee lure and Emma was lucky enough to catch her first fish on a lure with her first cast of the day.
Well done guys look forward to seeing many more fishing pics.
Rob Menadue has gone back to the old school floppy lures and has been having some great success.
Rob has been casting the lures over snags and just twitching them across the water just under the surface.
His biggest fish recently was 85cm.
I was lucky enough to find some time to get out and managed to troll up a chunky 89cm cod just downstream from McLeans Beach - the cod to a liking to the 145mm Coddog lure.
