In brilliant sunshine, a full field of 108 women in 27 teams from 16 different clubs competed on beautiful fairways and fast greens.
The event, originally named the Benalla Ensign Bowl, was sponsored by its former managing editor, Maie O’Shea, for many years, and she is fondly remembered by the club, and town, for her generosity of spirit.
Maie, a life member of the golf club, was a keen golfer whose talent was recognised when she won the North East Singles Championship in 1933.
The winners of the 2025 Maie O’Shea Bowl were Chris Bosley, Kaye Pink, Liane Graham and Val Ellis from Jubilee Golf Club with scores totalling 137 stableford points.
The A-grade winner was Aileen Buckley on 37 points, who also scored an amazing eagle on the 18th.
Former Ensign managing editor Maie O’Shea was a pioneer in women’s golf in Victoria.

Nearest the pins went to Yvonne Byatt (3rd ), Janet Wrath (8th) and Simone Gale (13th).
Beth Dobson from Benalla was also recognised for the top score in her age group category, ‘Legends’.
During presentations, Benalla Golf Club women’s captain Sue Oakley thanked club members who volunteered so much time to make the day successful.
“Grounds staff and bistro staff also played a huge role in making this a coveted event,” she said.
Sue also thanked the Ensign for its continued sponsorship and Milner Watson Pharmacy for its generous support in 2025.
