Rochester was unable to repeat the joy of two weeks ago in 17-and-under netball, finding itself ousted from the Goulburn Valley League competition at the hands of Shepparton.

It was an unlikely top-of-the-table clash at the preliminary final stage after Rochester scored a one-goal win over the minor premier in the qualifying final, but was beaten by Mooroopna in a grand final qualifier last week.

The weekend’s clash had all the makings of another tight contest throughout the first half.
Defence was on top in the opening quarter and neither side was able to make much impact on the scoreboard.
A late Shepparton goal earned the Bears a 6-5 advantage going into the first change.

The second period was just as even, but far more swingy as both sides went on sustained runs.
The Bears opened with four straight, but Rochy was equal to the task, stringing together four of its own.
The lead would change hands throughout the term, but it was Rochester that earned the narrow edge, 15-14 at half-time.

Shepparton seized control after the break, sinking six of the first seven of the term, and capitalised on that momentum to open up a six-goal lead at three-quarter time.
Rochester surged back within one midway through the fourth, but Shepparton had a response, making its way into the decider 38-32.
The result ends a top year from the Tigers, the squad only suffering four defeats in 21 matches.
