Seniors
Goorambat 2-1 6-1 8-2 10-3 63
Bonnie Doon 4-3 6-6 10-10 12-13 85
The senior game against Bonnie Doon on Saturday was always going to be a tough challenge, and the boys started the game with the intensity needed but did not capitalise on their opportunities in the forward half, which they need to do against the best sides.
The boys got back to within five points at the half-time break with both Darcey Edgar and Angus Burston getting on top in the middle with Jamie Dunne getting plenty of the ball and using it to the team’s advantage.
Dylan Beavis played another good game up forward along with Brady Purcell back into the side playing well down back, the boys know that they can match it with the top sides with some disciplined football.
Best players: Jamie Dunne (Peter Davis Rural), James Webster (Goorambat Railway Hotel), Angus Burston (Royal Hotel Award), Dylan Beavis (Hollywoods Pizza), Brady Purcell ( Bill Bo Pop), Travers Nolan (Club Dinner).
Goals: Brush Haebich 5, Dylan Beavis 2, Rhys Goodley 1, Brayden Stepien1, Angus Burston 1.
A-grade
Bats 41 – Bonnie Doon 72
The Bats faced a tough game coming up against Bonnie doon and having a few out with illness it was an even bigger task. But with the help of fills, Brittany Button and Michele Button, it helped lift the team. With a competitive first half the Bats were only down by 10. Ally Ellis, Nikki Wallace and Georgia Thomson worked well to try and shut down Bonnie Doons tall and accurate shooters.
Jasmine Martin switched rolls and played amazingly through the mid-court and combined well with the always dynamic Molly Doidge. New shooting combo of Kylie Relf and Michele Button moved and shot well to share the goals, with Relf scoring 20 and Button 21. Unfortunately, Doon stepped up and got away on the newly formed Bats in a high-scoring game.
Awards: Best On: Michele Button — Royal Hotel. Second: Jasmine Martin — Madison Jane Hair. Third: Molly Doidge — Terry White Pharmacy.
Reserves
Goorambat 2-0 4-2 5-2 5-3 33
Bonnie Doon 5-2 8-4 10-11 15-12 102
The reserves came up against old rivals Bonnie Doon at home on Saturday which turned out to be a good open game played in great spirit, but unfortunately the boys didn’t come away with the much-needed win.
Simon Briggs was the best of the boys and tried hard all game with great support from Matthew Priest and Rob Wilson in the ruck, giving their teammates plenty of the ball.
Evergreen Brenton Doig played a great game in the backline using his experience to intercept plenty of Bonnie Doon’s forward entries. Jack Trevena played one of his best games for the year with his tackling pressure at ground level.
Best players: Simon Briggs (Bouwmeesters Bakery), Matthew Priest (Royal Hotel), Rob Wilson (Subway), Brenton Doig (Club Dinner), Jack Trevena (Sportspower), Max Buckley (Macca’s Knife Sharping and Mowing Service).
Goals: Simon Briggs 2, Josh Stacey 1, Shaun Lemner1, Rob Wilson 1.

Goorambat 32, Bonnie Doon 68
The Bats wrangled together a team after a few midweek injuries. Doon hit the ground running and Bats had a bit of work ahead of them chasing.
Tiffany Kirkpatrick showed great drive and control through the mid-court with Alyssa Priest assisting out of defence. The goals weren’t quite dropping in the first quarter for the Bats, with Doon’s strong defence denying an access. Second quarter saw the Bats lift and get some movement. Fiona Doig and Ally Ellis slowed the movement of Doon’s goalies although once they got it in the ring their accuracy was on point.
Bats fought back and had a stronger third quarter with Poppy Broomhall from juniors stepping in and shooting 50 per cent of the Bats’ goals. She showed great maturity and strength for the Bats to feed into. This lifted the team and although a few calls were not falling their way, the Bats second half showed promise for the future.
Awards: Best on: Tiffany Kirkpatrick — Royal Hotel. Second: Alyssa Priest — Terry White Pharmacy. Third: Poppy Broomhall — Hollywoods Pizza.
B-Reserve
Bats 18, Bonnie Doon 64
It was a great day for the B-Reserve team as it was able to improve every quarter, showing skill and capability against very strong defensive pressure applied by Bonnie Doon. Ella Woods was able to adapt to playing with three different teammates in the ring, including Abby Hammond who was versatile on court. Abby played a strong game in wing attack and was able to go into the ring and confidently score in the last quarter. Best on went to the enthusiastic Hannah Coote, who took on feedback and worked tirelessly to win turnovers for her team.
Awards: Best On: Hannah Coote — Di’s Diamond Cleaning cash award. Second: Ella Woods — Macca’s Knife Sharpening and Mowing Services. Third: Abby Hammond — Sportspower.
C-grade
Bats 48, Bonnie Doon 62
Although the sun was not shining over the Bat cave, the Bats were ready for a tough game against the Bombers. With the first quarter starting off strong shooters Poppy Broomhall and Sophie Hammond worked hard, only going down by two at the end of the first quarter. The Bombers were just too strong for the Bats as they got to an 11-goal lead by the end of the third quarter. Charli Button put lots of pressure on Bonnie Doon players, getting many intercepts along with Ella Parrant and Molly Martin applying pressure in the mid-court. While defenders Lacey Carter and Eleanor Renkin worked hard to get many turnovers, the Bats just were not able to come away with the win.
Awards: Best On: Charli Button — Hume Solar cash award. Second: Poppy Broomhall — Hume Solar cash award. Third: Molly Martin — Sportspower. Encouragement award: Matilda Hopkin — Spot 4 Icecream.
Under-15s
Bats 6, Bonnie Doon 69
The girls were back at their home ground and they knew it was going to be a tough match. Yolanda Bourke, Pippa Martin and Imogen English worked tirelessly all game in goals, securing the team’s second-highest score of the season. Amali Mackenzie, Amelia Feldtmann, Ruby Davis and Indy Stovell stuck with their players all game in defence and made some impressive interceptions. Charli Levy and Amelia Keen showed amazing movement around the court and made some strong passes into the ring for the shooters to score. Overall, the girls played an amazing game and should be very proud of the progress they’re all making.
