The Wahgunyah Lions made the trek to take on Mitta at picturesque Eskdale on Saturday in what was a tough contest.
Mitta started strong as expected, but the Lions surprised Mitta with some great defence and pure hard work.
Dylan Langshaw was a constant roadblock in the backline with his speed and agility, and Branden Smith was also causing headaches for Mitta with his defence work and hard running.
The Lions found themselves 13 points down at quarter time.
The Lions started strong in the second quarter with Mathew Carnelly and Steven Cordwell presenting well up forward while the workhorse, Kane Maghamez was in and under and was crucial in driving the ball forward.
At the half time break the Lions found themselves 20 points down but entered the rooms with heads held high.
Mitta started the second half, showing why they are a force to be reckoned at their home.
Riley Okane stepped up and seemed to be in every contest and the roadrunner, Lawrence Roberts just kept piling up possessions.
At three quarter time the Lions found themselves 49 points down and showed some fight in the last quarter, but Mitta were just too good at their home ground, eventually running out 72-point winners over Wahgunyah.
A massive thankyou to our weekly sponsors for the continued support.

Goal Scorers: Jarrod Ash 2, Jake Coates 1.
Best: Kyle Maskell-Dunstan, Brody Fitzpatrick, Dean Maslen, Ben Bennett, Adam Wright, Ethan Stephens.
The Reserves team made the trip up to Mitta a little short-handed, but thanks to three of the Under 17s stepping up to help out, they were able to field a full side.
A massive thank you to those young lads for having a crack and supporting the team.
Benny Nicholson got the team off to a strong start in the ruck, providing plenty of opportunities around the ground, but unfortunately his day was short-lived after going down with an injury.
Despite the setback, the boys gave it their all, putting in a solid effort across every line.
The Lions managed to get a couple of goals on the board, but it was really the overall work rate and determination across the field that they can be proud of.
Awards: Kyle Maskell-Dunstan, Brody Fitzpatrick, Dean Maslen, Ben Bennett.
A big thank you to our Reserve grade award sponsors: Jim Fencing, Burn Fabrication, and Nomad Fencing for their continued support.
A great effort from everyone involved — onwards and upwards!

Some different combinations and players being popped into positions they don't usually play saw some strong combinations come to light, both in the attacking and defensive ends this week. Another well-rounded performance from the Under 15s saw them come away with the win.
