Lions roar into 2025 campaign with big win over Tigers

Seymour’s A-grade netball side has got life under new coach Casey Adamson off to the best possible start, recording an impressive victory over Rochester in round one of the Goulburn Valley League season.

The Lions travelled to Moon Oval to take on the Tigers as they looked to kick start their 2025 campaign, which they did with an impressive 59-43 win.

Seymour led at every break in what was a comprehensive triumph, enjoying a fast start before doubling their quarter time lead of 13-9 to edge eight goals ahead by the half.

The Tigers showed some resistance in the third quarter, which proved the tightest of the match, although Seymour still managed to extend the margin to 10 at the final break, before firing home 16 goals to 10 in the fourth to record the eventual 16-goal win.

Adamson’s influence wasn’t just felt in the tactical moves, but also on the court itself, linking up well with Rosie O’Sullivan to dominate through the mid court, while Ally Black and Ellie Fuhrmeister proved a formidable combination in the attacking third.

Ruby Martin and Bridie Cantwell also performed strongly in what was an exciting start for the Lions, who will be aiming to go further than their 10-8 regular season record and elimination final exit last season.

Rochester, which had a notable omission from its squad this season in 2024 Bendigo Strikers runner-up best and fairest Teal Hocking, will look to get its first win next week when it travels to Mooroopna, while Seymour will look to make it two from two when it hosts Shepparton Swans in its first home game for the season.
