In a sluggish start to the game Tallygaroopna got the first of the match and looked up for the fight early on before Violet Town kicked the next four to slowly start building momentum.
What happened in the second quarter had to be witnessed to be believed after the slow start with Mellington taking full control of the came to kick five in seven minutes and 11 for the quarter.
With the result all but a formality at this stage, the the group saw the opportunity to attempt to get the century milestone out of the way, so it was not a distraction heading into a big fortnight.
With another six in the third quarter the faithful all started to believe that the unthinkable was going a chance to happen.
The towners beat Tallygaroopna by 212 points in a one-sided clash, to be fair Tally having a number of players doubling up.
The last quarter saw the crowd that had assembled inside the clubrooms venture out to witness the occasion.
With seven needed in the last quarter things could not have started any better with Mellington kicking the first four to edge even closer to the milestone.
It became a question of when not if, following a superb pass from Nathan Abley Mellington casually kicked around the corner for goal number 100, the crowd stormed on to the ground to congratulate the full-forward, after the unimaginable was complete.
Now with 101 goals from the first nine games how many are possible in the next seven?
No-one thought the league record of Craig Wheelan's in 2012 was going to achievable, but if he continues at his current average of 11.1 a game he will pass that with two games still to go.
Ben Cosgriff and Matt McCarty were extraordinary in the greasy conditions and would have tied for best-on-ground honours except for Mellington delivering solid four-quarter efforts.
Fintan Brazil, Harry Sleigh and Lachie Baldwin all played well through the middle.
All round a very solid performance, but still yet to beat a side above it the first test starts Saturday at Stanhope.

Jake Styles kicked another six goals this week, with a couple of additional “ring-in” in locals Brendan Anderson and Scott Woolcock wanting to play one final game in the jumper the “twos” eventually kicked away to a 61-point win.
