The Redeyes found plenty of the football early, banging on a couple of early goals, but then unfortunately struggled to convert it on the scoreboard for the rest of the day.
If endeavour and commitment could win the game alone, Blighty would have had it in spades.
Coach Adrian Timmis led from the front booting three goals, with the ‘Melbourne boys’ once again prominent.
Alan Gardiner and Aaron Litchfield played well and Hugh Burton seemingly is enjoying his new role as a minder, putting his opponent to the sword.
Although we did so many things right, we let that one slip.
But at least we know that with just a few tweaks we should be capable of getting some more wins this season.
With a couple of recent concrete signings, it will give us that little bit of stability we have been yearning for.
Final score: Blighty 6.9 (45) def by Tocumwal 17.14 (116).
On one final note, well done to all the netballers on the organisation of the pink day, raising money for the Breast Cancer Newtwork.
They had all our footballers wearing pink socks, held various raffles and raised a good amount of money.
They also let their hair down and seemingly had a magnificent day.
Reserves:
All roads seemed to have led to Blighty Recreation Reserve on Saturday, as our reserves side came out with 10 on the interchange bench in trying blustery weather conditions.
This was magnificent to see. The whole team was local and it made for a fun day.
The game, however, didn’t give us the desired result but we were definitely in the contest for three parts before fatigue got hold of us and Tocumwal showed its strength.
Once again, captain Chris Hovenden stood tall in defence before dancing with the goal post, which squeezed the breath out of him.
It left Jarrod Andrews to fight the fight with clever football, earning him best on ground.
Callum Campbell slogged it out all day, as did Jhi and Sam Dudley and with William Barns improving every week and playing with a lot of passion.
Brock Thompson was solid with Jack Jennings and Johnny Mitch showing agility. Kev Kerr also stood up.
Final score: Blighty 0.1 (1) def by Tocumwal 14.17 (101).
Fourths
This week was a home game for Blighty, but unfortunately it didn’t give us a home ground advantage.
It was great to have Tom Dudley and Taj McCully come and put on the Redeyes jumper for the day.
They fitted in well with the Blighty team and had a good impact.
Logan Marshall was best on ground for the match.
Other awards went to William Frost who put in another strong effort, Taj McCully who did well in a new team and Billy Ralph who stepped up when put in full back.
Other players starting to show good signs of improvement are Kyah Watson, Cassidy Sibraa and Darcy Cleve.
With no game for fifths this weekend, five fifths players played for the fourths, and did a great job.
Final score: Blighty (0) def by Tocumwal 23.14 (152).
