Murphy, 16, will step into the spotlight at the Albury Entertainment Centre on September 6 in the Battle of the Border VIII, when he goes up against Temple Fight Gym’s Eric Harris for a Full Thai Rules fight.
Training at Yarroweyah’s Lion Muay Thai gym for just a year, Murphy has been putting in the hard yards, honing his technical prowess and putting his body through the paces six days a week.
His training regimen includes a 10km run on Monday, Thursday and Friday, alongside pad work and sparring on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Coach Ben Herezo said he was proud of Murphy as he prepared to step into his first official fight.
“He is a great young man and no matter the outcome, he has done everyone proud,” Herezo said.
Full Thai Rules is a version of Muay Thai in which all fighting techniques, including punches, kicks and elbows, are permitted.
