With over 150 entries, a mix of locals and visiting players participated in the 20 round-robin events that were part of this traditional Easter sporting event.
The anticipation leading up to the tournament was evident, especially with the completion of four new grass courts just in time for the event.
The quality of these new courts drew continuous praise from both present and past players, highlighting the success of the venue's recent upgrades conducted by the clubs committee.
From colourful outfits to family reunions spanning decades, the tournament's atmosphere was vibrant and inclusive, catering to players aged from nine to 84 years old.
Local players made their mark on the competition, clinching victory in one event and securing runner-up positions in six others. Standout performances included Troy Legudi winning the A Grade men's singles and Gabrielle Gelderbloem emerging victorious in the A Grade ladies’ singles category. Young talents also shone bright, with Toby Phegan and Henry Grant claiming titles in their respective junior singles divisions.
Corowa Tennis Club president Greg Filliponi expressed gratitude towards the tournament's sponsors, including Club Corowa, Warrabilla Wines, Corowa Sportspower, and Max Maclean & Co, for their generous support.
The president credited the successful tournament to the unwavering dedication of the committee and club volunteers, who worked tirelessly over the past year amidst challenges, from completely renewing four grass courts and refurbishing the clubhouse post the 2022 floods.
Additionally, the event featured a club raffle, with Zoe Malone, Charlie Marks, and Marcus Kylma emerging as the lucky winners of the top prizes, courtesy of sponsors Warrabilla Wines, Corowa Sportspower, and Max Maclean.
The 94th tournament undoubtedly left a lasting impression, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst players of all ages and backgrounds.
