Picola United secured another victory to end the Picola District Netball League regular season, now preparing to attempt an underdog finals run.

The Blues almost certainly locked up eighth place with the previous round’s win over Strathmerton, but sealed the deal at the weekend in a quality result over struggler Katunga.

Picola was in control from the off, racing to a 6-0 lead, and it was able to keep that advantage intact until quarter-time, up 10-4.

The Blues continued the assault in the second and, although, the Swans showed more in attack, they slipped further behind as Picola kept up its scoring pace with another 10 goals.

The third quarter was the most competitive of the day, finishing level seven goals apiece, but the Blues would seal the game in style in the last, winning it 17-2 to prevail 44-20.

Finishing the season a balanced 8-8, the Blues are now preparing for a difficult elimination final against Tocumwal (11-5).

By luck of the draw, Picola will take on the Bloods on their home court at Tocumwal Recreation Reserve.

Berrigan v Mathoura

The Timbercutters gave a good account of themselves at Berrigan to end a difficult season, going down narrowly 37-30.

A slow start to the game put Mathoura on the back foot, trailing 14-6 at quarter-time, but the visitor would work hard to fight back.

It knocked two points off the lead in the second and, after also recording a strong third quarter, the Timbercutters were knocking on the door of the upset, down only four with a quarter to play.
