Netball Victoria and RACV have joined forces to deliver two free Koorie netball clinics across Albury and Shepparton, aimed at nurturing netball skills in a fun, welcoming and culturally safe environment.
Open to children aged 5 to 17, the Shepparton clinic will also include an Introduction to Umpiring workshop for participants aged 12 and over.
Four Rumbalara representatives will share their expertise both on and off the court.
Rumba legend Jess Bamblett will lead the playing element of the clinic alongside daughter and A-grade netball teammate Jaydah Wanganeen, saying a focus on building confidence for participants will help shape their approach.
“We want everyone to enjoy themselves, build confidence and connect through netball,” Bamblett said.
“Jaydah and I both like to think outside the box, so we can shape the session around the group and meet each participant where they’re at.”
Although Bamblett, a proud Yorta Yorta, Warlpiri, Wiradjuri and Gunditjmara woman, has more than 20 years’ experience and several A-grade premierships to her name, it’s her far-reaching influence as a netball mentor that looks set to benefit an impressionable next generation of rising stars.
A coach at both senior and junior level, Bamblett has lent her experience to Netball Victoria’s First Nations pathway programs and in 2024 was an assistant coach for the Victorian First Nations team.
“I want young First Nations players, whether they’re new to netball or already playing, to see the pathways available and know they belong in the game,” she said.
With whistle in hand, Rumbalara umpires Desi Morgan Jr and Carmela Fasano have been selected to teach the art of netball officiating.
Morgan Jr can often be found around the courts at the State Netball Centre and Murray Netball League, while Fasano is a regular contributor around the local leagues of the Goulburn Valley.
