In a match that could have gone either way, both sides looked like they could take home the title until the last rubber, however, Karramomus proved too strong in the end, winning 4-41 to 5-38.
Karramomus and St Andrew’s had been the benchmark sides all season, with Karramomus finishing on top of the regular season table with two losses and St Andrew’s in second with three losses, with a head-to-head record of one win each.
Stephanie Veal helped Karramomus get over the line and said it was a great match overall.
“We were so rapt to get the win against St Andrew’s,” Veal said.
“It was a rematch of the final last year and we managed to get on top of them last year, but it was very close as well.
“It was a great game and great competition, they’re a really friendly team, so we always love coming up against them and it was neck-and-neck up to the last match.”
In true grand final fashion the clash went down to the wire, with a massive 6-0 victory to Paul and Katharina Veal in the day’s final rubber helping Karramomus to a three-game margin.
Veal said strong encouragement from supporters on the day helped them over the line.
“We always have a really large support group that comes and watches our games, so I think they kind of revved us towards the end and got us over the line,” she said.
One player that was unlucky to miss out on the grand final victory was Mary Dean, who picked up an injury before the finals series.
“We wanted to do it for Mary because she could not be on the court with us,” she said.
“We are a really close team and a really close club as well at Karramomus and it’s just a beautiful community and that’s what we love about it.”
