Once again, Australian Christian College Hume set off for Shepparton to compete in the annual primary schools’ badminton tournament.
ACC increased its teams from two to five, concentrating mainly on its Year 6 students, with special invites to those who competed last year.
It has been a challenging year for ACC due to the stresses of setting up a new campus.
The two teams who competed in Division 2 of the tournament were highly competitive, and the other three teams who competed in Division 3 had a brilliant day, taking silver and bronze.
ACC (3) went within two points of winning Division 33, and ACC (4) was close behind within 10 points of winning.
Erica Lynch struck gold when Shepparton Christian College needed someone to bring its team up to full complement.
Lynch played well, and the side won Division 3, earning her a gold medal.
Congratulations from the school to the ACC students on a great effort, fighting out some of those close-fought matches with courage, determination and great teamwork.
ACC also equalled its performance from last year, with two students winning rackets for sportsmanship and the most improved player throughout the tournament.
The tournament sponsor, Cason Sports, provided medals, shuttles, certificates and also donated six Carlton rackets, two per division, for a boy and a girl.
In Division 2, Kyah Loh claimed a Carlton racket, and Jack Hurley took home another Carlton racket in Division 3.
The Benalla school also donated a sports sample pack consisting of Carlton Aeroblade 700 rackets and Carlton FC1 shuttles by Cason Sports.
Cason Sports believes in supporting grassroots and children’s sports.
Sizzling games were played out on the day, and every student should be proud of their efforts, exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship.
When the students were asked what advice they would give to next year’s students about participating, they were unanimous.
“Just do it,” they said.
“It’s a fun day; you meet new friends and, best of all, no school work.”
