The Shepparton Athletics Club is launching its summer season on October 16 with a Come and Try outing at the Shepparton Athletics Track, encouraging athletes of all ages to try their hand - or feet - at the sport.
And the club will launch into the new campaign with a new status attached to it, with the organisation named an official Victorian Masters Athletics venue.
“Athletics really does offer something for everyone,” Shepparton Athletics Club President Amy Tinkler said.
“You don't have to be an elite athlete or even have previous athletics experience to get involved.
"We want people to come down, have a go, meet our members and see what the club has to offer.
"We also want people with disability and their families to know that there can be a place for them in athletics.
“We want to help create pathways for athletes to participate, develop and, where they want to, explore opportunities to progress further in the sport."
A Victorian Government Sport and Recreation grant will also see athletes under 20 receive a Shepparton Athletics Club competition top, propping up young athletes as they embark on their own journey.
“We want young people to feel part of the club from the moment they join,” Tinkler said.
“Providing our junior athletes with a competition top removes an additional cost for families while helping build that sense of belonging and club identity.”
Tuesday and Friday evening sessions will commence at the club’s synthetic track at its Numurkah Road site, with the season launch to be held on Friday, October 16 from 6pm.
