The Yarrawonga/Mulwala Open Meet on Sunday, January 4, provided a fantastic start to the 2026 swimming season, with nine Sharks swimmers producing an outstanding day of racing, podium finishes and strong performances across all age groups.

Young gun Louie Drummond (8) impressed in the Boys 11 & Under 50m freestyle, claiming second place with a strong time of 45.71 seconds, continuing his steady rise in the pool.
Marshall Lees achieved a first place in the 100m Breaststroke event.
In the older age groups, Marshall Lees (13) delivered a standout performance, winning first place in the Boys 12 & Over 100m breaststroke. Lees also recorded a sharp swim in the Men’s 50m freestyle, clocking 32.05 seconds, and followed up with a second-place finish in the mixed 200m breaststroke.
One of the most inspiring performances came from Russell Lin (11), who returned to competition after a broken pinky finger. Lin took a remarkable 12.12 seconds off his Boys 11 & Under 50m freestyle to finish in 42.45 seconds, while also producing strong improvements in the 50m backstroke and a massive 20 second drop in the 50m butterfly.
Ethan Marks continued his consistent form, placing third in the Boys 12 & Over 100m Backstroke.

The younger Sharks also showed strong development, with Archie Marshall (10) delivering confident swims in both the Boys 11 & Under 50m freestyle (39.96) and 50m backstroke (49.82).
Emma Marshall was second in the Girls 11 & Under 50m Freestyle event.
Emma Marshall (9) swam a composed 57.82 in the Girls 11 & Under 50m freestyle and claimed second place in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 1:02.09.
Finn Walsh (10) rounded out the younger swimmers’ success with a strong 50m freestyle swim, finishing in 40.45 seconds.
Senior swimmer Samuel Turner (18) backed up his pool racing by also taking on an open water event near Geelong, where he finished midfield against a competitive field — a fantastic effort and a strong demonstration of endurance.
With plenty of podium finishes and committed performances across all age groups, the Sharks have set a positive tone for the season ahead.
