Fast-forward four years, and she is making a name for herself in the sport and recently won gold in the under-17 section of the Country Victorian Table Tennis Championships.
Recently she’s done a lot of practising and has travelled to tournaments in Croydon, Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo.
While Benalla Table Tennis Club is her home club, she also travels to Yarrawonga to have an opportunity to test herself against more opponents.
She has also been selected to be part of the Victorian state team, being sponsored by local businesses, to take part in the National Table Tennis Championships in Traralgon in July.
“Table tennis is a really fun sport. It’s definitely what I hoped it would be,” Sienna said.
“I did basketball before table tennis, and although I liked it, I found the atmosphere amazing at table tennis.”
Sienna said despite being nervous going into the Country Victorian Championships, she was quietly confident.
“I thought I had a decent chance at it, and I knew how much practice I’d put in,” she said.
“And I ended up getting gold. I was very happy, as I knew I’d worked hard to get there.”
In one of the games, she was two down, but managed to turn it around and win.
“Everyone came over to watch. That gave me more confidence than nerves,” she said.
“I saw half my team encouraging me and it really helped.”
Sienna is now focusing on the upcoming nationals.
“Thank you to everyone sponsoring me to get there,” she said.
Those include Fobia Industries, Carlisle Art, Hollywood Pizza, Rettke’s Carrier St Meats, Jenny Milner - Marsha Watson Chemist, Millers and the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Table Tennis Club.
