The event is one of four nominees for the event of the year, and the tennis club has been joint-nominated with Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism, Moira Shire and Tennis Victoria.
Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club president Daryl Bennett said Country Week was a great example of what can be achieved when organisations work together.
“It is too big for any of us to run in isolation. By working together we were able to host the event and ensure that Yarrawonga and surrounding areas received the huge economic benefit that flows from it.”
The group were recognised by VicSport chair Ritchie Hinton for hosting the event in the wake of last year’s floods, “delivering in two to three months what most venues spend two-plus years preparing for”.
In all, 78 temporary and 23 permanent were prepared for 26 grades that catered for players of all ages and abilities with volunteers rallying to ensure canteens, accommodations and social functions were in order for 1293 players.
An estimated $3.3 million was brought into the local economy by hosting the event.
The awards will be judged by a panel including four-time Olympian Steve Moneghetti and will be presented at a ceremony at Marvel Stadium in June.
The awards honour those who have made an exceptional contribution to sport and recreation in Victoria during the previous calendar year, elite sportspeople through to volunteers.
Finalists across 18 categories have been announced for with more than 240 nominations received from the Victorian sporting community.
