Throws on show at Benalla Little Athletics

Going long: Josie Yuen-Francis.

It was another big night at Benalla, 57 little athletes last week — and it was all about the throw.

Our littlest athletes started off with a nice quick 70m run followed by the 100m.

Hoping the weather helps out next week, so it is safe enough to get some hurdles in for them again.

Learning the ropes: Theodore Thannhauser.

Following their runs the Under-6s worked with coach Simon training on discus while the Under-7s worked with coach Brett on their shot put technique, practising how to hold their weight and get the power behind their push.

Under-7 Josie Yuen-Francis set a good distance to try and beat next time and U7 Theodore Thannhauser beat his personal best tonight and taught the photographer not to take photos that close next time.

Winding up: Emma Moore.

The Under-8s also worked with coach Brett on their shot put skills.

Under-8s Emma Moore and Frank Christie showed us how to do it right.

They then went on to run the 70m and 100m on the short track setting some good times.

Bend the knees: Frank Christie.

The Under-9s and Under-10s mixed it up tonight with the 400m run on the long track (thanks to the Benalla Rovers Soccer Club again allowing us to use their pitch) and 70m on the short track and discus with coaches Simon and Brett.

Under-9s Dominic Hopgood and Gaige Donoghue-Haines threw their discus’ as far as they could, while good friends Under-10s Rebecca Heatherill and Owen Bolitho were all smiles as they raced each other down the short track.

Heaving it: Dominic Hopgood.

The Under 11s to 16s started with a quick short run down the 70m short track, followed by some training over at long jump, another quick sprint down the 100m track and then some training at javelin.

Under-12 Yahkirah Kerr gave it a great shot tonight while Under-16 Jaiden Taylor-Parkins worked hard on his technique to increase the distance of his throw.

On the spin: Gaige Donoghue-Haines.

Weather permitting we will back training next Friday afternoon.

If your athletes have turned five recently or they are aged between five to 16 years old they are more than welcome to come down to participate in the free Trial Athlete offer. Log on to https://lavic.com.au/membership/new-member/trial-athlete-offer/
