Up against the benchmark team this year the Rennie Hoppers showed glimpses but ultimately went down by 123 points.
The Strathmerton Bulldogs have played the same game style with great effect for many seasons, chipping and moving the ball across halfback until an opening in the middle is created then fast and efficient movement deep forward. This enabled their power forwards to kick 15 between them.
Conversely the Hoppers are lacking targets around the ground and ball retention and pressure on the ball carrier becomes an integral factor.
It’s great to see Bailey Lewis in his first full senior game take the step and look comfortable at the level along with Ollie Cope at halfback and Denver Bruce. Connor Hargreaves was outstanding all day.

The Strathmerton Bulldogs were at the top of their game against the Hoppers which made a very hard task for the boys. Adam Cooper’s efforts kicking two goals kept the spirits alive but the Hoppers were underpowered against the Dogs. Nevertheless they still held their heads high. Brax Ednie and Finley Strawhorn were strong in defence giving it their all while Spencer Cowan, Fraser Nagle and Eliot Bye were creating plenty of run with the ball.

It was a real ding-dong battle out at Hopperland as the 11s kicked the dew off on another beautiful sunny autumn morning for the Hoppers versus Bulldogs match. In a low scoring contest the ball continued to go back and forth, reminiscent of the last quarter of the Dons versus Pies Anzac Day Blockbuster with neither team willing to give an inch.
Zack Briffa was in everything and his hard work paid off by kicking a well-earned goal. Maddox Oughton was on fire, so much so that the opposition couldn’t handle the heat. Sid Dowling, Fox Lonergan, Todd Hemphill and Corey Sarson were strong in the contest all day. Well done all on a great game and thanks to all that help each week to get our little legends playing the game we love.

A Grade
Rennie 25 defeated by Strathmerton 40
Learning lots about ourselves as a team, the girls matured and took it to Strathy especially in the last half. With the game being played with high intensity and strongly contested balls, our juniors really stood up and showed just why they deserve their spot in A Grade. Eliana Martin continued her roll in defence this week, rebounding strong - she is growing and developing each week.
Rennie welcomes back premiership player and long-time friend Lexi Wright, helping Rennie out whilst dealing with injuries and studies.
Abbey Coghill's last game on Saturday, leaving for the army. Rennie wish Abbey all the best and are so proud that she is following her dreams. Many positives and lots to refocus on but we will continue to put our best foot forward.
Awards: Incentive Award - Eliana Martin; Mulwala Bakery - Sophie Coghill; Miss Dolly - Laynee Rhodes; Showcase Jewellers - Heleena Shaw.
B Grade
Rennie 33 defeated by Strathmerton 61
This week’s training schedule was a bit different, and with illness still in the air, we weren't mad about an extra day’s rest before game day.
Coming into the game, we knew Strathmerton were going to be tough, experienced and set in their routines.
The B Grade girls chose to focus on their own strengths and following on from the positives we saw last week through pacing the game, positivity and a want for the ball.
With one of the key defenders, Chey, unable to make it to this week’s game, we saw coach Celine Collins Bye make her way back into the defensive circle to play an exhausting and hard-fought game with Jess Barton.
Our defenders were matched with experience and precision, yet if there was a rebound to be seen, it landed in their hands every time.
The tireless midcourt players showed strength through drives and were able to show that training and practicing our rests on the line and hands over pressure would produce goals.
Well done to Ella Harvey, Georgia Phillips, Georgia Hope and, of course, our fiery Alainah Bye.
This week’s game allowed for numerous rotations for our goalers, seeing BOC Zoe McKenzie really showing up and improving, week after week, even in GA.
Working with Ebony Williams and Dee McPherson, our goalers were patient and yet also demanding.
Despite the game not going our way with the score, there were many positives to take. Great work girls, keep your heads high and continue to put in the work.
Awards: Incentive Award - Zoe McKenzie; Mulwala Bakery - Ella Harvie; Judds Yarrawonga - Georgia Phillips; Free as a Bird - Jess Barton.
C Grade
Rennie 33 defeated Strathmerton 22
Heading into this round, the C Grade girls brimmed with optimism after securing a win last week.
Their focus on utilising court channels was evident with their training drills clearly paying dividends.
Sarah and Rach excelled in capitalizing on rebounds and finding open players. The midcourt saw numerous changes with Georgia, Georgie, Nada, Gabby, and Meg seamlessly adapting to their roles, providing the necessary drive and options.
Haylee and Taya seized scoring opportunities, yet the second quarter witnessed Taya's unfortunate ankle injury. Hopefully, her recovery will be swift, given her burgeoning performance in this new role.
Sarah C seamlessly stepped in, ensuring the team's momentum remained strong with consistent goal shots and rebounds.
It was a stellar team effort resulting in an 11-goal victory. While there are still areas to fine-tune in training, the girls are beginning to gel and enjoy the rewards of their hard work.
Awards: Yarrawonga Bakery - Haylee Wilson; ClubMulwala - Rachel Guppy; Yarrawonga Hotel - Sarah Dowling; Jaycee's - Georgie Thomas.

Rennie was backing up with another home round but unfortunately wasn’t able to back up with a win.
The team celebrated Tegan who played her 50th senior game in the finals last year, making her captain for the round.
The first half was well contested, with Rennie only down by five. Tegan and Illa were a new combination to start and the pair demonstrated a smooth and controlled beginning.
We welcomed Brodie for her first game after being away and injured, where she slotted in nicely.
We continued to have the forever reliable Trudie and Lauren running the centre position, providing great options throughout. Alysse and Eden were fantastic WDs and provided great support back down the court.
With two of our main defenders away, Burke Dog adjusted well for the different combinations we tried. Edos, Britt, Alysse and Shez ‘Ricky D’s’ McBurnie all provided excellent pressure and had a red-hot crack in defence.
Britt did well to adjust from defence into her regular shooting spot. Well done, girls, for adjusting and continuing to try throughout the game. The team is always improving.
Awards: Mulwala Bakery - Illa Crawford; One Zach - Mel Burke; North East Camper - Tegan Lee; Intersport Wingates - Alysse Kaiserseder.

Rennie 50 defeated Strathmerton 15
On this beautiful shiny Saturday the U17s put on another great show! Coming out guns blazing with Mabel and Soph dominating the goal ring, popping shot just for fun, the girls took the lead early.
Laynee was running the centre like no other, with her unstoppable intercepts and passing dictating the game - putting her captain skills to work.
With defensive ends having a bit of a swap around this week, the girls didn’t let it worry them, Heleena sawing through the air like a true Hopper, reading any play that was coming her way. Lucy being a little silent assent, always hiding back in GK, came out to stretch her legs this week and, oh boy, she didn’t disappoint!
Last quarter the girls wanted to have some fun, with a toss of the bibs and rotating seeing the Rhodes girls having a few goals together. Then Demi copped a black eye, but copped it with a smile.
A great team bonding for our girls with a great day of smiles all round.

We were met with beautiful sunny conditions. The girls were determined to keep on the winners list and that’s exactly what they did.
Our goalers were on song again this week with Sienna, Jasi and Charlotte all working beautifully together and taking every opportunity to score.
The ever-trusty Kate took on the task of WA in the first quarter and absolutely turned it on. Ruby and Michelle worked hard in the wings, ensuring the ball moved smoothly throughout the court and when needed defensive pressure was put on.
Layla and Mia rotating centre guided the team down the court, giving plenty of direction and encouragement.
Sam, Tess and Kate (after her stint in attack) played brilliant together in defence, putting the pressure on making Strathy work for every goal.
The team is really starting to find their groove, seeing their hard work at training payoff on game day.
Awards: Mulwala Bakery - Michelle Coulter; Rhodes Family - Sienna Clarkson; Jaycee's - Layla Thwaites; Yarrawonga Bakery - Sam Knight.
